Help me decide on an air cooled reflector

I just found the Super Sun 2 reflector and it seems to have some good reviews too.
I second this hood.

I setup two 18"x40" areas each with one SS2 hood in them. It covers about 18"x32", so I put the outlets and such in the dim/non-direct space. With a 293 inline (SP TD150) and two extreme bends in really short ducting, the temp difference is 5-7 above ambient (400W). With your 500 CFMs centrifugal inline, you should be fine in terms of heat displacement.

For more reviews and lightoutput tests, look up "air cooled reflector testing with digital footcandle meter" on google. That thread goes very into detail with light output tests and such. Good resource to anyone looking up AC hoods.

In your case, one on a light rail would be great.

Light rail will have to wait until next harvest... Money... Also, how much would it really be able to move on a light rail in a 7 ft wide space with a carbon filter, inline fan, and ducting. Seems like it would be a bit crammed for that.

7ft wide? u mean 2? thats what u told me eariler. i wouldnt get a light mover if theres enough room to move the current light, get another one

It's a closet, so it's 7 ft wide, 2 ft deep, and 9 ft tall. It would be good with two lights, but again, that will wait till next grow... Taking baby steps here, started with CFL, now moving onto this, and then it'll grow more. My next obstacle is figuring out the passive intake. I keep reading that you want 2-3 holes that are the same size as your exhaust... So I'm actually looking to cut about a 14"x6" square hole and put a White Return Grill over it to disguise it... but now I need to figure out how to keep light from coming in that hole or escaping it... I guess I might have to build something to go with that hole that includes 90 degree angles to allow air passage but not light passage. The best parts of setting up a grow are the stupid things you didn't think about that come after you bought all the cool stuff.

This is my closet...

None of my goodies have come in yet so this is all from my last grow... actually, I have habanero peppers in my bucket right now just starting to grow.

I'm planning on the hole for the passive intake to be directly to the right of the right door. there is a 18 inch wall there that I'm figuring out in my head how to do it all.

Closet wire shelf will be removed, and that emergency blanket is going because I have flashgro coming in.

The reason I didn't do flat white was cleaning it. These plants are going to be all over these walls and flat paint is impossible to clea this Mylar stuff I bought is on woven fabric, so it should be heavier, easier to tack to wall, and easy to clean up. And transferable to a different grow room if I grow into a larger area.

you put a new coat on after every grow.

you gave me a fantastic idea! im gonna be sealing my doors and was trying to figure out how to d a passive intake.. but now i need to figure out how to hide the light lol.

A new coat of paint eAch time would be a PITA... Not for me... As for keepin light under control with passive intake I'm thinking an elbow joint of some sort... Something from the ducting area of home depot and just have it point towards ground. Light can't travel around that but air will still be sucked. Worse case scenario you do a couple elbow joints together and make an S... I'll let you know how I do mine when I get everything in I've ordered. I'm trying to do this grow as stealth as possible. I was even thinking of attaching some sort of board to the bottom of my door to allow air to come in still but block the light...

a new coat of paint every grow isnt bad. its good because the light always has a fresh coat of paint there instead of dull stuff.

plus it keeps the room cleaner and stuff too. keeps the light reflecting nicely and not losing due to dirt/dust.

My room is entirely covered in panda film white side out. That shit is awesome. It wipes down easy for disinfecting and keeps the light leaks in. :D

thats works too but i like paint better i think its easier to take everything out and slap a coat of paint on it then it is to buy shit to clean it plus a gallon of paint lasts me 3 grows.

Been looking at the silverstar 6" hood
Any suggestions on a brand. i was also looking at the northstar XXL but lil expensive.

Spent the weekend setting up my closet. Lined it all with Flashgro, absolutely loved it, nice thick material that was easy to cut, tack up, and just do whatever with. Covered my air cooled hood with Poly Shield (from Lowes) figured it would help with heat and sound... I have nothing to compare it with but my thermal gun shows that it's not hot at all and it's silent. I hung everything with bungee cords to help reduce vibrations, I just need to buy some more yo-yo hangers... Work great for the lights, but I need to be able to move the fan and carbon filter up and down as well so I can keep the ducting as straight as possible and maximize air flow, so improvements are still to come. I know I need the light lower, etc, but I have to wait for the yo-yo's to come in to easily move it all up and down. I gave uyp on trying to light seal the closet... it just isn't happening.

With the doors closed and everything running the temp hit a high of 82 on Sunday. The ac in my house was also a little jacked up because I forgot to change the filter, so the house was 75-76 degrees when it's normally stable at 72. Also, I still have the ballast in the closet, wanted to see how how it got before I removed it, and let me tell you, it's hotter than the lights! Used a thermal temp thingy and the glass over the lights doesn't even get as hot as the ballast... the ballast has spots that are about 115 degress. So if I move that out of the room I know the temp will drop. So all in all, I think this came out damn good. I have a couple more thing I need to do to make this space more efficient, like moving the ballast, getting yo-yo hangers for everything, adding in a fan or 2 for air circulation... Not bad for a 600 watt light (I have not dimmed it at all, trying for full 600 watt in this space).
