600 hps vs 1000 hps

Im trying to figure out if a 1k would be a huge benefit in my situation. Right now I cover about 3.5x3.5 with a 600. Is the penetrating power strong enough to take you from say 13oz to 20+ while keeping a 3.5x3.5 canopy? My lower middle buds would have to see a major increase. I always end up with a bit of larf, I just have trouble believing its going to just blast through the foilage.

but I have never seen a 1k bulb running in person, so Im asking

thats weird i get 12oz with a 600w with 6 plants but a uk oz is 1.04084 compared to 1 us oz.

anyway i use dual spectrum bulbs that keep plants small and stocky instead of lanky. and a friend said the power usage and heat outweighs the end product and the heat is harder to deal with so i stuck with 600s. and never ever bothered with 1000s.

I run both, and see almost the same buds offf my dual 600 setup as my 1k on a 6 ft rail.. Almost the same.. I think the stationary 6 is better than a moving 1k any day. But that wasnt the question... Lol

All HIDs have almost exactly the same falloff curve. The only difference is the distance of the "sweet spot" goes up the higher the wattage. As you raise the light up through the ascending wattage, 150 250 400ect the amount of area they cover goes up while staying the same intensity. All Hids can be too close not only heat wise but light intensity and bleach your plant, heat and light go hand and hand. So as you go up in watts all that really changes is the amount of space you get to grow in. The falloff curve is the same so for example your getting the same intensity 8" inches below the top of your canopy as you are no matter what watt your using if you put the light as close as the plant can handle without stress.

Well for personal smoke, The 600 would be fine.
If i plan to share my weed with friends here and there the 1000w.

The 1000w will beable to cover larger plants and produce fatter nugs also the popcorn nugs
will be bigger.
Bulbs are the
same price also

I run both and love both. But i would rather run 2 600s than a single 1000.
But 1000w instead of a single 600 any day of the week

I can keep my 600w just as close as my non air cooled 400w at 8''?

You have to decide wether the extra heat in going from 600W to 1000W is worth a minor increase in yield.
It's hard to guess how much more yield because you may be running a full room now. Wouldn't make much
sense to increase wattage there, eh? And the extra heat will be significant.

600W sounds like plenty for your small area. You would see more product with 2 400W lights, or even 2 600W
lights. You will increase coverage significantly as plants in the middle get lit twice.
