better taste: soil or hydro

all other things being equal, which do you prefer?

i ask because i had a neighbor drop by with some dispensary weed today for us to try, she said it was very potent, great taste, decent smell. my wife tried it and couldn't finish the bowl.

anytime i try dispensary weed, i can tell immediately if it was grown in soil or hydro (mostly, it's all done in hydro). maybe i'm just getting snobbish after three years of only ever growing organically in soil. i don't know, so i thought i'd see what everyone else has to say.

i have no sense of smell, so i tend to only pick up the smoothness of the product. but for anyone else imagining this scenario, just imagine it's the same strain grown in the two different mediums.

Weed grown in soil tends to have more terpines an essential oils. Not to mention weed grown in hydro will most likely have chemical fertilizers in it. Most of the weed entered in the cannabis cup is grown in soil.

I think all the hydro lovers are going to be trying to tell how superior their weed is. Personally I have to vote soil. You can flush hrdro all you want its still filled with nutes.

i actually just had some of the hydro stuff my wife didn't like, and it was pretty good. still tasted the hydro in it, but it was very smooth.

probably one of the best hydro growns i've ever had taste-wise.

i have seen how vigorous the growth is in hydro, and it is quite awesome. but i feel like mother nature taxes that with a taste tradeoff, no matter how well grown.

good soil can cut back on the cost of nutes, too. but i will often chicken out on hot soil and go for lighter mixes so i can play Dog with my plants.

buds grown in hydro will always be inferior in every way. Yield is tertiary. I don't give a fuck how many times you've "flushed" it.

For the people who cannot tell the taste and smoke difference between soil and hydro, I say kudos to you. Some times ignorance is bliss. Luckily, the local dispensary that I use grows 100 percent organic soil. It's amazing.

I prefer hydro if it's grown properly. You run the risk of that "chemical" taste no matter where it's grown. A proper hydro or soil grow can both produce some fantastic tasting and smelling stuff.

i have a friend who can spot hydro grown bud a mile away.. always bitching about the taste of it over soil grown, and i mean always...

idk if i'm not that much of an expert, or if most of the bud around here is pretty much soil only, but i can never tell the difference personally.. maybe if i had a hydro and soil right in front of me of the same strain...

What about say a organic hydro grow VS standard? Would there be a taste difference then? Say someone used Roots organics in their hydro set up VS someone who uses the same company for their soil grow? Just asking cause I was considering growing a pot or two of hydro and soil next to each other. I may save this for a few grows down the road though so I am not trying to wrestle two different regimens.

Any how... thoughts?
