What's your wattage and PG&E monthly cost?

Hey guys,

Just getting ready to fire up my 8,000 watt flower room (2,000 watt veg already running) and I'm trying to get an idea of PG&E costs. It's already pretty eye popping what the veg room has cost to run for 2 months. Would appreciate anyone who can share wattage and monthly PG&E bill. CARE or no CARE (discount program) would be helpful info as well.

My bill is usually 108 dollars/month. I run around 2000 watts total flower and vegetation rooms.

for 2400 watts of flower, 1000 watts of veg, 14000 btu portable...and the normal costs for the rest of my home...about 800 a month here.

look at your bill m8... find out what you're paying per kilowatt hour, or kw/h.. it will be right on the bill somewhere.. probably around $.15 kw/h, depending where you live of course..
take that kw/h price, and multiply it by your total watts.. it would look like this if you paid $.15 for instance.. $.15 x 8kw, or 8ooo watts..
so we've got $.15 x 8... $1.2.. multiply the $1.2 x how many hours you have them on, 12 for flower.. so we got $1.2 x 12.. $14.4.. then just x's the $14.4 by the number of days in the billing period, or 30.. so we got $14.4 x 30.. $432.. that would be your total for 8k watts running 12 hours a day for 30 days a month if you're paying $.15 a kw/h like i used just as an example..
just need to find what you pay per kw/h and plug in your own numbers to get a very good idea of what you'll be looking at each month.. :D

It's not that simple in california. The rates very depending on the time of the day...and what tier you are in for power usage.

I always calculate at the highest tier. Also, the rates DO NOT vary by time of day unless you are in that particular savings program. If your highest tier is say .31 cents per kwh it's that price no matter what time of day or night you use the electricity. The only time the cost changes is as you use more and you go into the next highest tier.

Also, I was surprised at how much power many houses in my area use. I looked at the central AC unit the other day and it's 60 amps all by itself. My next door neighbor says that with central AC and 3 teenage boys in the house his summer electric bill is over 1000.00 a month. And he's not growing.

This is for Edison, so PG & E may be different.

Thanks guys, keep em coming. I can, indeed, calculate my estimated usage even with the fact that I'm on a tiered plan with PG&E. The baseline is $0.15/kwh for 600kwh, then it jumps up to $.029, $0.31, and $0.35 VERY quickly. Even just running the veg room right now, I was at $0.35/kwh in no time....the majority of my bill was billed at that rate. Latest bill for June-July was $700. PG&E is horribly expensive. When I used to live in Utah, we paid $0.11/kwh period, no tiers or increases.

i run an 8k set up and in residential area it will cost you including electric for general house use about 1,400-1,600 a month. Mine is about 15ish. With the care program it will cost you about 660.00 a month. I was on care but they kicked me off of it ! smh ! If your in an agricultural, commerical, or industrial zoning area your bill will be like half as much as residential.. good ol' california..

I believe the usage is based on a "tier" system . Once you go over a certain amount of kilowats you go to a 2nd tier, which costs more money, then a 3rd tier which costs more, hence the huge fucking bill !!

My August 2012 SoCal Edison tier rates:

tier 1 - 464 kWh @ .13
tier 2 - 139 kWh @ .16
tier 3 - 308 kWh @ .25
tier 4 - 217 kWh @ .28
tier 5 - missed it :) .32

1,128 kWh - $213.05

What was their reason for kicking you off CARE? Did they want to inspect your house for efficiency problems?

mine bounces between 1300 and 1700 a month. 7k watts hps, (2) 4 foot 8 bulb t5 portable ac, dehumidifier, fans etc.

For those of you running over 5000 watts, especially you 7 and 8 thousand watters... No inspections or questions from the power company? Any issues running that much?

I am at 2K but would like to bump up to 6k if possible.
