I cant get cuttings to root. im ordering seeds weekly and growing from seed.
whats the take on growing from seed as sopposed to growing from clones?
seems like growing from seed would have more potency consider the stress factor?

Clones are the way to go... Why can't you keep a clone alive? Whats your approach on it?

As far as i've ever been able to tell there isn't a noticeable difference between seeds and clones as far as potency. My clones have always been just as good as their original mothers. What do you do when you germinate seeds and grow 'em out finding a star amoung your seed stock? When you find that one special lady you want to save her to keep her around and treat her nice. Keep practicing your cloning methods and dont be scared to try new things. Also keep in mind some methods and some strains can take 3-4 weeks to show roots.

ive been pretty satisfied wtih my orders and germs from this seed bank so ill keep it going. but i just wanted to know in advance what to prepare for.

Seeds and clones have different advantages. Some clones can take up to a month to root depending when you take them and with in that time i could have vegged a shit load of seedlings but, clones can go str8 to flowering and the seed plants have to wait a week or 2.

for the footnote i have no negative in this term.
i have a quidline in my garden to follow in order totry and maintain a certain yield certain time etc.
minimum 12 " vegg cycle and the nflower. my first plant went 22" in vegg then flowered and its just fucking to huge for my room i will never do it again. tried 18" i have a 14" and now im tossing in 12"'s to see how they all do differently

If you are not growing 10-20+ plants at a time just use seed. No reason to keep a mother for clones if you are only growing 1-6 plants or so at a time. Clones are also good for sog where you will have multiple smaller plants rotating in a perpetual cycle much of the time.

The only advantages of clones is faster veg times and knowing you will have a female every time. But if you use fem seeds and have a good environment, no light leaks and know how to not stress a plant too much you really don't have to worry about hermaphrodites.

I have always grown from seeds.

If you are ordering seeds weekly it sounds like you are doing a perpetual sog or something, which clones through a mother would be a better option.
Being I only have space for 4 girls and can get 2-3 pounds off them every 60 I really have no need for clones.

I've heard seeds are more pest and disease prone. Disease not sure but have noticed pests ase less on my seeds than the plants next to mine which are clones. Just my opinion. Good luck brotha

You mean pest and disease "resistant" not prone. I agree though.

Yeah when i first started growing for real for real i got all my advice/tips from weedsthatplease.com which said don't force flower until 18" by the time it showed preflowers it was 2ft tall @6weeks 24/0 200W cfl by the time it was done i had a 5 ft plant in a 1 foot bucket and no space and not enough lighting for it.So now i 12/12 from seed with a shit load of plants and by weeks 3-4 i can tell sex and the plants may be 6-12" by then so i end up with plants 1 1/2 to 2 1/12 feet tall and i like it that way.

clones allow you to keep collection. Its the way to go. And no I don't think potency is lost, or any stress really once you get the art down. I bet right now you have dying or wilting terrible looking clones and you think its a lost cause. Don't worry.

Seems like I been sayin this like 10 times the past few days but here goes:

If you use a humidity dome.. then use root powder and don't overwater your rooters/plugs/RW cubes etc. Just water with like 1/4 inch water for a min or so. It'll absorb.

If you are familiar with a bubbler/cloner.. just stick the cutting into clone GEL and directly into the cloner/bubbler plug.

Keep in mind, you need to take the cutting properly. 45 degree angle, etc. Read up on it. Make sure you make the cuts IN water. I use a little dish with water.

Good luck

Yeah. Try 20-30 with seed every month. The cost? I had to treat myself for clone syndrome. Had a jungle going. Tried giving away WW clones but didn't know enough people I trust. It was habit forming.

Yeah my original plan this grow was to grow about 8 females from from 16 reg seeds, next thing i know im planting 50 more seeds got 15 OG(took 4 weeks into flowering and most died from mold) and i ended up cutting 10 clones from from 2 other plants.I scrapped the seeds since they were only badseed but i planted 26 more 3 days ago.

You cannot retain genetics when you find an excelent plant. The biggest advantage to cloning is it allows you to keep vigorous potent strains. Seeds are like babies they are going to have varyations in genotypes. Some breeders produce very consistant genetics but even in those breeders there is going to be some genotypes more potent and better yielding.

I like seeds because of the selection. If I want Subcool or Tom Hill strains, I can get them through seeds. Trying to find them in clone form (let alone making sure they're the real deal) is very difficult if not impossible in my area. Another problem with clones (or rather breeders who sell clones) is that it's hard to have a large number in an area that don't have pests. You also can't be to sure of how good of a job the person did selecting a mother.

However, if the source of the clone is trusted, it's healthy, pest free, and it's the strain you want, then the clone is actually better. You save a few weeks and you end up getting an amazing plant that's already been selected for it's high quality traits by an experienced grower / breeder.

It depends on so many things.
If you have a veg room and a lot of space, I would do both.

From seed will give you better plants and yields, taproot and such.
I have found that clones are not really that much faster than seeds. By the time the clone is rooted/established plants from seed can catch up.

You can always try making Fem seeds. I've done it and had success.

I can keep a one-plant-a-week perpetual grow going with one mother plant the size of a basketball. In fact, for the last
month I have rooted 3 clones a week from the one mother plant. So, mother plants don't have to be huge. Pick a likely
candidate and top and trim it immediately. Keep her trimmed and small until she is old enough, 4-6 weeks, to give clones.
Try to take your cuttings from nearer the top of the plant. Helps keep the mother small.

Good luck, BigSteve.
