Airpots Club

so one last question. I thought i read on this thread that I can get by with using smaller pots if I go with air pots. i currently use 4 or 5 gal / 15c+ liter pots so if that is the case what is a good size to buy?

I'm lacking pics for the moment, but I have my most recent cycle vegging briefly in 1 gallon airpots and flowering in the 2 gallon airpots. I've been using sunshine #4 advanced mix for my medium with a hydroton mulch at the top. I'm a little frustrated with the water absortion of the medium, I'm getting a lot of runoff through the holes along the sides of the pot. With that said, the growth has been unreal and very impressive. Attention must be paid during hand watering, slow and steady seems to be key. These pots are producing plants remiscent of 7 gallon traditional containers with fox farm ocean forest soil. I'm excited to see what my results can be with these, and I've got high hopes with large healthy plants in relatively small airpots. Seems like a very cool product!
Hi mate, i get the same problem with my 1ltr airpots if i water to quick, never had the prob with my bigger pots tho, but sayin that im in coco which drains real quick so i think thats why im cool.
Like chedz says fullin the pot right up helps cos youve got the closed holes at the top, and once youve wet all the medium on top then water around the plant stem helps aswell, i was thinkin with you usin the hydroton on top maybe thats spreadin the water out better which is givin you the prob, have you been gettin the same prob with the pots with no hydroton??

quick questions from a new grower.
I have done a few successful grows but on most of my grows as it gets into several weeks 5+ of flower they seem to stop growing and I wish I had pictures of my roots but they do look all bound up and wrapped around the outer part of the buckets. Is this what air pots eliminate?

My other main question is can i use soil in air pots as i have never used coco but the main reason is i have many large bags of soil i wish to use up and i can buy some nice air pots here locally today.

thanks in advance

Yes mate that is what airpots are good for elimanating root circling an bein able to use smaller pots, what i can say tho mate if your plannin on usin soil i would go for the same size pots you use now or slightly smaller as the airpots dry out a lot quicker so you would have to water a lot sooner then normal which i no can be a pain for you soil growers, if waterin often is no probs for you mate id say the 6ltrs are great an will grow you 3-4ft trees no probs ive also had good results in 10ltrs, but you will have to water everyday lait on in flower.
hope this helps mate,

I have a few pics of the root systems a few pages back, Did a side by side regular 3 gal pots Vs. 10L (2.7) Air Pots. No circling what so ever on the air pots. Can't say the same for the regular pots. I think you would be fine with 10L like i'm using. I just switched from 5 gal geo pots and i'm glad i did. If you switch to air pots , you better get a nice res ! Cuz your going to water like a mad man.

hey pukkabud, nice custom avi.. that was a one gallon smartpot in between the 2 airpots in my last picture. its really amazing what a pot can do for a plant.
these bubblebombs just keep exploding . i dont know how much longer to be honest. Its a day to day thing at this point. i would like to give a good flush and drown them too if i can.
Its amazing how much you can control the size of a plant by the size of the pot. I have 3 pineapple chunks in 1 gallon smartpots that are like freakin trees. Im super happy i have them in small pots because if they werent they would be ENORMOUS. seriously cant believe how massive they have gotten.
not fair to compare size when the smartpot is smaller than the airpot.

ok, fair call... but with results like i presented im not very willing to take to trial the a 2 gallon airpot and a 2 gallon smartpot with the bubblebomb. would you?

edit.. but on the other hand i did slice off 4 inches off the tops of those airpots , so they really arent 2 gallons anymore..

I had hard time with runn off through the holes at first pal its natural !!
If using cocco or any medium the same as try and make a crater in the soil and make sure the pots are full to the brim of which eva medium u use as instead of it running down the sides of your pots and out the holes it goes through the centre of your medium first and wicks out to the edges with minimal loss out of side holes
chedz!!
Thanks man, thats great advice, I'm going to use the crater method around the stem for all future transplants!

Thanks Pukka, even the pots without the hydroton do it. I honestly think that the medium is partially to blame, its so airy and light that it just drains really well. I've been watering slower and will try a cone/crater shape with the soil to filter water towards the stem. Thanks again for the advice guys!

So is the general consensus that 12/12 from seed should be done in a .8 gal? I'm using 600W Aircooled hood, FFOF with mushroom compost, cow manure, kelp meal, perlite, EWC tea, molasses. I'm in a 4x4x7. The goal is to go 12/12 from seed, find a keeper male, move him to mother/father tent in 18/6, chuck the rest of males, grow females out, clone the best one, mother her, pop a different set of beans, repeat, until I have 6-8 strains I really like, then work on stabalizing with the respective males. I have 2 tents, one veg, one flower. Aiming for perpetual. Sound good? Or should I move up to 1.5 gal? IDC about plant height, I'm scrogging. Just don't want to have to water every day as my job and my wifes job are conflicting schedules, I have a hard enough time keeping up with the rest of my shit.
