The tray with half of my clones got pushed in the pool today. One dead, two in intensive care right now. It is a salt water pool so I've got higher hopes for the survivors than if it was chlorine. They're are sitting in their second bath of ph'ed water right now. Later on they will get some vitamin b and possibly some light nutes.

The new screen is complete. It took an incredible amount of time.

It started off poorly. I discovered that the grasscity thread with the directions was erased. Then I found out that the mouth-breather at Home Depot had given me some wrong parts. I went to Rona ( a Canadian version of Home Depot) to rectify the problem.

Here is my gear:


30 feet of PVC piping, cut down to 4' and 2' pieces.


I washed it all first and my dog stuck her face in the hose:


One day later this is as far I'd gotten. Yes, I know the drill in this photo is a child's toy. That is not why it took so long.


Several hundred years later and it was complete


It fits in the Producer just about perfectly.



I've got 10" below the screen and the 2' above it to the lights.

So here is photos of the two remaining clones that ended up in the pool. They don't look so good.

All the plants that went in the pool are now dead. I'm going to have to do my scrog with 3 plants. It's not the end of the world, I'll just have to veg a little longer to fill my screen.

I've tied down the growing tips of my mother plants. I'm really limited in vertical height in my tiny tent and I need them to bush out.

Nice work!! I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out for you. I'll end up building one for my Producer as well if it seems to make a difference. The strain I'm about to grow, Super Critical, is meant to do very well with SCRoG.

Here I am relaxing at the cottage and not even thinking about my grow. It seems like every weekend for the last while has had some grow related task or problem to tackle

Blarggg. My 3" muffin fan came detached from my amazing duct tape job while I was at the cottage. Spider mites have set up shop in my tiny tent for moms. I just gave my mothers and my clones a nice soaking of Neem oil. The mothers are also going outdoors because the night temps are low enough that it should slow them down.

Definitely. I had the wrong product and my clones were suffering wild PH swings. The mothers were stressesto hell when i got them I've resolved the issue and they are on the mend.

I can tell that I'm a little rusty on hydro growing. I opened my reservoir and saw this.....



....and my first thought was "how did dental floss get in there?"

That is, of course, an ambitious root from this pot.


The plants are looking better with lots of new green growth. There has been no sign of spider mites in my cabinet, just the mothers tent. I'm continuing to treat it.

I've never used RO water before. I didn't know that it makes the plants susceptible to magnesium deficiency. The first mild rust spots were showing on Thursday as I got ready to go to the cottage. I came home on Sunday to see this;




I've purchased some Botanicare Calmag on my lunch today. I was planning a res change today anyway so this is a good opportunity to rectify the problem.

Wow, what a difference a good dose of Calmag makes. This morning the plants were perkier than Reese Witherspoon in a rom-com. I'll post some photos tomorrow.

I use this PH meter.



Last night I dropped it in a bucket of water while using it. The last clear reading it gave was 5.6. After the bath it said 0.7. I used one of these to verify my PH was probably ok


I removed the batteries and let it dry over night. It seems to be working fine and I tested the calibration, it was 0.2 off of neutral.

I've been reading quite a bit about scrog and topping. Nobody seems able to agree on yay or nay, and if you do top, when, how much, for what purpose. Every option seems to have a solid rational as to why that is best. I've decided that I will be topping twice right before it hits the screen. Ideally I want 4 tops to train in each direction. I might be wrong but hey, i might be right. Time will tell. The plants are naturally pretty bushy so lower branches shouldn't have to much trouble in reaching the screen before I flip the 12/12 switch.

Speaking of flowering, I'm going to go with an 11 light/13 dark cycle. I listened to an interview with DJ Short on the Free Weed podcast (http://hightimes.com/entertainment/dan/7214 - on the off chance you haven't heard of it, do yourself a favour and subscribe). DJ said his strains prefer an extra hour of dark and light nutes. I've been using my nutes at about 75-80% of full strength for that reason.

I was in my car doing a 6 hour drive to pick up some DJ Short genetics and it was a really great surprise when I flipped on my iPod and the man himself is on my speakers giving advice on how to take care of his plants.

The plants are almost at the screen. I topped two of them and FIM'ed a third. I've never FIM'ed before so I thought I'd experiment.
