This is one of the safest herb sites. Don't use your phone and you'll be fine is the current advice...
I've always posted pics, it's too helpful/informative not too imo...

What's not cool about posting on a phone? Just don't put yourself out there like crazy and it's safe. Long as you got legal paperwork your fine. If not, then don't show too much I guess. Plus the traffic volume is so high at this site that hunting down individuals would be a huge effort. Plus I think this site hides your ip anyways.

For some added peace of mind you can remove the metadata from the pics. Some forums do it automatically when you upload, but to my knowledge RIU does not.

And forgive and correct me if I'm wrong put if you right-click on a pic on your pc and click properties, it the data here that can be seen by some. Mostly type of camera, time taken, image details, address of where pic is on pc ie-C:/users/billclinton/documents. So if your image contains no personal info that reveals who or where you are, just as the image itself, you are safe.

As for uploading through third party sites instead of directly from pc IDK. RIU gives no personal info out does not collect or store IPs or make them visible publicly, although being their servers are in the states they are definitely susceptible to a warrant or non-warrant to get info. But most of us are at the very bottom of any "to do" list by law enforcement.

Most busts are done by local police who don't have the resources to track people through internet forums. Instead, they rely on tips from ex gf's, neighbors, disgruntled friends, and what they see during helicopter fly overs. Once they have a lead, then it's a lot easier to just come over and talk to you. If they have strong reason to think your growing, at that point it's pretty easy to get a warrant. Once they do find your grow, then they take your grow equipment, computers, phones, cameras, etc.

Once they have your computer equipment, it's really easy for them to look at your web browser's cache and see what you've posted. At that point they really don't need it, but if you happen to put up a good defense, they can come back and say, 'He's not just a local grower. He's a threat to the community because he's actually a large scale international grower. We have reason to believe he's talking to other growers. He's using sophisticated equipment to come up with more potent strains, this isn't your nephew growing pot in his parent's backyard. He's a real danger... Here's some pictures..., here's some comments..., here's his diary...., Look at all of this... etc, etc."

What sucks is they don't have to show all the evidence or all your postings in court that prove your a nice person. They only have to show a few quotes and a few select photos that put you in a bad light. Everything can be used against you, but nothing has to be turned over and used to help you.

As for geo-tag'd photos and hiding your IP address. That's more to stop criminals who might want to rob you. The police aren't after that kind of info, because it's not reliable and requires to much work and time to follow through. For example, they'd have to be an admin or moderator (or bust one), then get your IP address which will only tell them your city and ISP. They then need to talk to a judge to ask for a warrant against the ISP. The ISP then has to release the info. The police mean while are praying you don't find out about the admin getting busted so you can't clear up your grow operation. They then need to confirm you actually still live or operate at that location. Once they confirm all this, then they need another warrant to come search your property while also showing the judge they have jurisdiction in your area. Otherwise they will need to stop and forward the lead to your local police and hope they actually care enough to follow through. It's just to much work, for something that isn't a sure thing and that has so many delays at every step.

I'm sure they visit these types of forums, but it's more to learn about growers, not really to catch specific people. They might want to know what's the latest equipment people are buying, what's the advice that's being given out, and what's the latest tricks at hiding grow, but they're not going to go after everyone here. They just can't. ]They don't have resources. They only go after people when they have solid leads. Solid leads come from neighbors, ex-girlfriends, friends, and landlords.

An easy way to remove the geo-tag and meta tag info is to upload photo to your computer, open it in Microsoft Paint, and re-save it as a JPEG or whatever file you want. Paint doesn't support geo or meta tag info so it strips them out. Some online photo editors also do this. There are also lots of free utility on the net that do this too.

Tor Browser https://www.torproject.org/ OrWeb if you use Android https://guardianproject.info/apps/orweb/ . BitCoins canbe purchased at http://www.weusecoins.com/ or http://bitcoin.org/ Use Pidgin http://www.pidgin.im/ or Jitsi https://jitsi.org/ (sure they seem simple and hokey but use with VERIFIED Off The Record messaging). Use Xabber with the secured chat feature. In case you missed it, Skype sold out to the gang of marauding thugs calling themselves "government" so they are no longer secure either.
Barry Cooper should do a video on On Line Security. ;) ... just a few suggestions to stop the gang, or slow them, from destroying your lives, that of your family's and loved ones, all for their futile, childish, immature, violent, disgusting, sickening gain. War on drugs my ass... it's a war on SOME drugs... the ones that work.
