This blows....Soil is gone

i get the 3.8 cu.f bales of canadian growing mix for 40 bucks at a nursery. a few years back i ran into the same problem with them not having it at the local nursery due to winter coming. i need the soil before spring so i can get started but they wont have it until spring. so now i always get a couple of extra bales and store them so come february i have enough until its in stock again.

since then i have found another nursery that always has the growing mix, but i still make sure i have enough to start for the next year.

peat moss is HIGHLY acidic and adding "poop" will make it even worse................this mix will kill most plants unless your water ph is at 8 + lol.....sorry but it's bad advice IMO

I agree! Replace the poop/guano with lime.....or dolomite and your good!
Sunshine mix #2 has canadian peat, perlite, lime, and some bark...i believe it also has a "wetting agent" whatever that is? Works for me? Good luck! :)

Yes peat is acidic, but that's actually why many people use it over coir. Its a great medium that helps lower pH to the ideal range. I've grown using 1/3rd peat moss, 1/3rd vermiculite, and 1/3rd compost before with no problem. It's a very solid organic mix that's great for raised beds and containers. You don't need to add anything else. No ph, no ferts, just lots of soil. It works and its cheap.

The only time I can see this mix being bad is if you come with the mindset that your going to grow with high-tech cannabis specific hydroponic nutrients, like Fox Farm, General Hydro, etc. Use those over priced chemicals with this mix and your going to have a piss poor harvest. Use normal organic gardening practices like mulching, adding compost, and doing crop rotation, and you'll do great.
