General Hydroponics Flora Series

Hey all,

this is my third grow, and i have been sticking with GH's flora series because although everyone has different opinions on this, it seems to many that this is the most simple nutrient regimen and works fantastic. I have had good results with it so far, but have tinkered with Pro-Tekt by Dynagro, CalMag Plus by Botanicare, and a natural berry flavoring supplement that I use sparingly (composed mostly of sulfur).

does anyone have a long history, or lots of experience with the Flora Series? and if so, what are the main supplements you find it is lacking?
I have been recommended to supplement with a silica additive(protekt) and a cal/mag additive (CalMagPlus).

I use RO water, so my nutrients are not the hardwater version. Any suggestions for supplements on the Flora series are appreciated.

If I was still using Gh Flora.I would use DG Protekt (like you have),GH Diamond Nectar,and GH Liquid Kool Bloom.I use GH Maxibloom Lucas,and these are the supplements I use with it.If I could have only one supp?It would be the Pro-Tekt.

its good stuff. good stable ph and seems pretty complete to me. i wouldnt use calimagic unless a deficiency actually showed up because flora series has plenty already.

floralicious plus ad koolbloom are a must imo the rest are gimmicks.

i also use a bennie tea i brew myself

Yea pretty much same as me. Floro plus is amazing and smells great.

I wouldnt recomend diamond nectar if your using floro plus since floro plus has fulvic too.

Florablend is great too. I love it as, much as floro plus.

Other than micro and bloom, you don't need anything else. Silica can provide some benefit, so can an 'organic-ish' additive. It's your 3rd grow though, save your pennies for your environment.

The idea of the three part or any hydroponic food is that it's complete. It is everything the plant needs other then light, co2, and water. (basically) But, when we start to have hiccups in our systems with pH or mediums. Then other issues arise quickly. Calmag and those things like that have been found to alleviate those issues or prevent them from arising in the first place. GH now has a CA MG product that's a little different then calmag plus.

If you wanted to keep it clean and in the family then Kool Bloom Liquid is a nice booster. Not too crazy. I'd get on one of the Floralicious things and you'll be happy.

my friend.. read the back of the bottle, or download the pdf "feeding schedule" offline - this is a very general question.

^ yup and to even make it simpler a lot of them have a website. You punch in how much water you're mixing, what you're using, how many weeks of flowering and presto you have a custom feed chart. You can even choose to go light or heavy with the feedings and it they we tweak it for you.

so now i have another question.. what would be the difference between an extra portion of GH Bloom v Liquid KoolBloom during the last few weeks of flower? dont they have the same NPK for the most part?

Skip the liquid kool bloom. It's essentially the same thing as flora bloom at twice the price except flora bloom offers mag and sulfur. LKB is also a very watered down 'booster' at 35ppm/ml/gal (.7 scale).

I used the 3 part for years and I'm telling you, micro and bloom in roughly a 1:2 ratio works very well. Maybe 3 mls micro and 6 mls of bloom per gallon for veg and 5 micro and 10 bloom for flower. Done and done.

Come on you guys.. think about that..

A quart of bloom is 8.00.
A quart of koolbloom 14.00.

Wait for it..

bloom is 0-5-4..
koolbloom is 0-10-10..

So you're going to add x2 the bloom and you think that's less money?

At 2x the dose that's 16 a quart for bloom to equal a 14.00 bottle of koolbloom.. -2.00 per quart.. I'm sure that gets larger as you go up in size of bottles. That's not saving money..

Also can you explain how you can say a 0-10-10 is a watered down booster and then recommend a 0-5-4? What's an un-watered down booster then 0-0-0?

HB those numbers are not just decoration. They are telling you the concentration of the elements. Your wife must do all the shopping.. lol

Both LKB and florabloom contribute 35ppm/ml/gal. Some of that ppm is going to be from elemental sulfur and magnesium but LKB is offering nothing that florabloom doesn't already. Learn about the minerals kids. Maybe one day you can run a successful garden instead of spending all day trolling growers you secretly admire .

Math is not your friend is it? I wouldn't have to clean up your messes if you didn't mess up so often... I'm just protecting users from your mistakes.

It's pretty simple math. But what I find interesting is that you seem to think you've caught GH messing up or something. Like they are giving you less and charging you more for koolbloom only because of the sticker price per quart. Like you've figured out something that only you were smart enough to to figure out.. only to realize that you forgot about the mix ratio.. ouch.. Now, you just can't admit you were wrong. It's basic math but nope..

How long have you been telling people that?

Just look at what you wrote.


You're half right, that why I still think there is some hope for you yet, you're at a D- but you're not failing yet and I'll give you extra credit for this one and that might get you up to a C--.. But you need to work on your attitude young man..


You're right they are both P and K but you notice the numbers? One set is 0-10-10 and the other is 0-5-4... Those are not equal. One set is larger..


That means something to what where doing here. Those are % of that element (in general) by weight. So, if those were pounds.. what would weigh more? 10lbs or 5lbs? 10! correct. What would weigh more? 10lbs or 4lbs.. 10! correct again..


So, now we see that one is more then the other. But wait, you tell me that it also cost more? Hmmm but how much more? 75% more per quart? Ok but wait.. Isn't it plain to see that it's 100% stronger in P and K? Numbers don't lie.


Seems really easy to see.

HB, your ppm meter tells you about as much about the elements as a general lumen meter tells you about light spectrum. You can't tell if one spectrum is more or less, some show up on the meter more then others. Not all elements are the same conductivity.... That's one of the main reasons they are different elements in the first place. Electrons? Protons?
