Source for male plants?

So I am looking to do a breeding project with a few different strains that I have. Problem is that I dont have any male plants. I know you can herm plants to make feminized seeds, but I have heard that you dont really want to do breeding this way. I plan on buying a pack of seeds in the future of a strain I have in mind, but they are super expensive. I have seen them for sale in the past, but cant find any. Any suggestions?

I heard that male plants aren't illegal cause that don't get dank or make you jiggy. Maybe you can buy male plants at a garden store? I'll ask my dad.

Any form of cannabis is illegal in the US. While it is obvious that female plants would be illegal, this also applies to male plants as well as industrial hemp (also has minuscule amounts of THC). Pretty stupid, but that is the way it is.

If you breed using a male the seeds you'll obtain will grow mostly like the male. Feminized seeds are made to specifically grow like the female they came from. Of course purist will rightfully tell you that a real breeding program involve male & female as this is the natural way of our favorite plant.

a male counts in your state numbers, they can't tell the freakin difference anyways, so by default they are all considered part of your plant count.

only ways to get males: get one from a buddy, get one from a shop (tough to find - but you can request your dispensary to sell you a male from one of their seed pops), or grow your own.

read up a little while your at it, lots of good articles out there. fem seed made from selfing (hermaphrodism) can result in higher hermi rates. seeds made with colloidal silver trick the hormones and the resulting seeds are not prone to hermaphrodism --- unless the original genetic material was already prone. either method doesn't reproduce the mother exactly, there will be some pheno variations.

pollen chucking is fun and very rewarding - it's mostly what I do. breeding requires time and patience, with a different set of rewards - these are folks that are making strains for folks to enjoy. both are different critters though .....

There aren't any on their list right now but Karmaceuticals sells male clones. I'm having a minor bitchfest about getting different phenos from like-marked clones from them but they were healthy and not bug eaten.

since plant count does matter would it be possible to graft a male branch to a female plant and then isolate the male branch when it's about to pop pollen with say a baggy over it?

I've used colloidal silver to force balls to pop ....

I have just started messing around with colloidal silver.
My tiny veg room is now a fem seed crop room.

My plan (haven't tried this yet, as soon as I pick the current plants):

I get two clones from the same mom and one for a cross. Let's say 2 Double Blueberrys and a C99

Once the clones are established I start spraying one. (I use Tiresias Mist, you can get it at hydro stores or on ebay for about $20)
I spray it once a day under 18/6 for a week. Then I pull the other two clones out and put them in a different veg area.
I continue spraying the first DBB clone for another 10-14 days. The other two clones then come back to bunk with the shemale DBB clone.

The plant that gets sprayed will be a bit stunted. By giving it a 2 week head start on 12/12 the pollen sacks have time to develop and be ready to pollinate the girls when they are ready to take it. The DBB clones will produce basically clones of the mom in seed form. The crosses will be saved for later. (I assume crosses will go 50% mixed, 25% tend towards the male, 25% tends toward the female. I don't know, from observation, I think the male shows up more in the crosses.)

I did this with great success with Autos (don't hate, it was in a shed that got over 100 degrees this Summer, regular plants would not have survived). I have thousands of fem auto seeds. They are good for my non-green thumb friends.

I had limited success trying to self a Banana Kush. I ended up with more Banana Kush x Blue Dream fem seeds.

Selfing a plant is a different story, but I have a plan for that.

You spray one branch twice a day on the bottom a week before 12/12 and a week after you flip.
Pick the pollen before it opens and get it out of there, then selectively apply it to some lower branches.

When you pick the plant let the pollinated branches go longer to develop the seeds.

This is all theory for me, I am working on it.

sounds like a good plan. my only tweek would be your timing. initiate spraying CS 2 weeks before flowering and 2 weeks after. the CS has to absorb into the cellular structure to a saturation point for it to work properly. too little time and you possibly waste the entire experiment.

I have a pre98 Bubba I hit 1 lower branch with CS and I'm letting her just dust the rest of the Bubba, Grape Stomper and some 303 Seeds' CBDiesel (really excited about this one, to see if a good CBD combo can be found).

for clarification, Selfing is the act of the plant producing hermi nanners or balls and pollinating herself. not the same as using CS, which tricks the plant into thinking the branch or entire plant (wherever sprayed) is a male by messing with hormone triggers (CS blocks the hormone from reaching the branchsites). I am not a fan of the Selfing method for creating fem seeds ... IMO, it re-inforces hermi tendancies.

not really. I always use one of the lowest branches and just pull it out a little and spray away from the plant. I absolutely smoke the rest! CS is just suspended silver particles in pure water (possible other small contaminants if self making a batch of CS). CS has been used for years by people claiming health benefits (they drink it) .... worse thing that happens is they can turn blue (like a Smurf, lol) from so much CS absorbed in the system. CS is an anti-fungal / anti-microbial. THe CS also only absorbs where it was sprayed, it is not systemic to the rest of the plant. so it should be perfectly safe

if you are spraying a couple times a day, your timeframes will work fine. most people only remember or have time to spray 1x daily, or they miss a day here or there .... so I always recommend longer times to ensure success.

and believe me, I know about self pollination, hermaphrodism and the differences between using CS and genetic predisposition to make fem seeds. a plant selfing by itself, is a genetic predisposition of hermaphrodism - the seeds produced from such will carry the same genes, selfing itself re-inforces those tendencies. It does not make clones of the plant though, it is still re-combining it's own genes, so some offspring will be like mom, but some won't be - the more varied phenos will come from polyhybrids that were fem'ed. the seeds' tendencies to herm depends on the starting genetic material, but using it's own pollen (not using CS) to create seeds will re-inforce herm traits in some of the offspring, guaranteed. it's science.

If you breed with a male you will get a mix of male and females.
A male has an X and a Y chromosome. A female only has X chromosomes.
When you mix the two you get both.
