if your trying to air cool your hoods.. i like the raptors.. the xxxls are nice but they whistle a little. if your looking for the brightest fattest foot print.. i definitely think the wings are the brightest most badass reflectors, just not air cooled

Looking for answers so I'm bringing this thread back to life...
I have 4 1000W and I'm looking to put each of them over a 4x4 tray, and getting them as close as possible. I currently own 3 radiant 6s and 1 Magnum XXXL.
I'm thinking about replacing them with the large Adjust-a-Wing with cooltubes, because I prefer coverage over intensity. Am I offbase here? and will the cooltubes greatly effect the footprint of the Adjust-a-Wings?

I'm not sure cool tubes and adjust-a-wings play well together. The adjust-a-wing works because of the adjustable distance of the bulb to the reflector and the way you can adjust the spread of the reflector. I don't think it can physically be done without some heavy modifications to the wing and then you're losing the functionality of the design.

It can be done. I got the idea from Al B Fuct. He has pics and everything and says it works great.

Radiant reflectors are NOT the only hood who's interior reflector is designed by lighting engineers; the Blockbuster is also. Take a look at the Griners.com reflector test; the Blockbuster 6" air cooled reflector easily beats all other reflectors, in terms of overall efficient light coverage, for covering a 4' X 4' area. The Radiant was a close second, and the Luxor is MUCH better at concentrating the light directly below the reflector than spreading it.
I've been running a Blockbuster 6" air cooled, 1000w Digilux/Hortilux HPS and Solis-Tek digital ballast in a Sun Hut 4.5' X 4.5' X 7' tent for quite a while with EXCELLENT results.

I really like my xxxls I have two 6 inch and two 8 inch the only problem I have found is with the 8 inch they leak a little if pressurized if your fan is setup to suck you should be fine. I have to pressurize mine tho due to sound issues and I had to get some neoprene gasket material and beef up the seal on the 8 inch hoods. The six inch hoods are a little smaller and the hinges a little closer together thus creating a tighter seal and do not leak.Even despite this small problem I love these hoods. A fan controller (dimmer) is a good investment for ya as well.
