How can I make a "light tight" door?

I'm planning on making a 5x4 box, wooden framing wrapped in poly. Considering I'm doing a scrog and have to be able to reach the pots?..how can I make a big door that's air tight. Keeping in mind I'm trying to still keep to my budget... (20 on framing and 20 on poly so far..)

I was thinking zippers? but I don't know how that work work, if it's light tight andd long zippers seem expensive!

just use the poly and some velcro with sticky back and make your own door using that.. attach the velcro to your frame and stick the poly to the velcro around the frame..
when you need to get into the grow, undo the velcro for easy access, and when it's not in use, hook the velcro back uo to keep things tight and light proof..

i just made the same thing and the velcro does not stick to the poly plastic verry well, i unded up making a door out of plywood and 2x3 its not light prooof yet but with a little poly film it will be soon.


your not going ot get a 2x4 and panda film grow room air tight without spending a bunch of money. grab up a roll of black duct tape and tape off any light leaks on outside and just frame in a door and use a couple hinges.

i always use a stapler to attach velcro to poly.

Make your door out of plywood and frame the 3 outside edges __

with 3" pine trim that overlaps your door by 1" and on the inside of that overlap put some 1" weather stripping. You will have hinges on the last edge so you put the remaining piece of trim on the INside edge of your door frame.

I use 6mil black and white and a zip up.
You can fing them at hydro stores or prolly on line. it is like a 5-6 ft zipper with adhesive
on in. Make a solid plastic door, stick the zipper and razor blade the opening as directed.
I have seen black and blue zippers. The black is better at shielding the light at the zipper.

Did you consider making the framing out of pvc instead of wood? All my small wood framed boxes I regretted after using pvc and panda film for the first time.

With the panda film, you can get a 6 foot long zipper that is attached to a sticky backing, it sticks to the panda film very well, you open the zipper and slice your door with a razor and only use however much of the zipper door that you need, think they cost something like 10-15 bucks for one, can't rememeber for sure but thye are cheap nonetheless. They are 99% light proof, but nothing a strip of duct tape wont fix, which would also seal up any air gaps in the zipper. Just gotta toss a new piece of duct tape on it every once in a while, but it works for a small opening like that.

So I used the panda film on my pvc frame with zippers but what do I do at the bottom? I added a 4” flap to cover the seam, but it’s not sealed. I guess I can add Velcro to seal the bottom off, but I was thinking about trying magnetic tape. has anyone used that with panda film? Not sure how strong it would be.
