Sog question with NFT system!

Hi there..

Been doing alot of reading..

I currently have a 50 pot NFT system running and was reading about Sea of green and i might concider trying this out..

But since my NFT system runs on the same water all 50 pots would that be a problem concidering i have to flush the system 7-10 days before harvest?
Should i split the NFT system up? (Pain in the A$$) or maybe build a smaller NFT system for the last 2 weeks before harvest and then move the ones that are 2 weeks from harvest? Will it be safe to relocate those plants from one NFT system to another? Thinking about root damage?

Please help me i the right direction :D

Sorry if its difficult to understand what im asking English is not my native language.. Any questions please ask instead of not replying.

-Thanks

i guess it depends on how big the root mass is, but you say 2 weeks from harvast. why do you want to split them up at the last 2 weeks?

2 weeks is the cycle of sog :) Harvest and plant every 2 weeks.. :) And have to flush them so it is the only way as i see it being possible..

i believe you are confused here. sog is not a grow "cycle" but a grow "style". sog growing style is simply eliminating all lower growth from plants harvesting main colas and packing (usually) 4 per square foot with around a zero veg time. what you are thinking of is a perpetual harvesting garden and you dont have to do a sog grow to achieve this, so my question to you is are you more interested in a perpetual garden or changing to a sog grow? people like sog for perpetual for the zero veg perk of it but can be done with larger plants without a problem.

Hi.. I do not believe im confused.. :?

But i might.. The way things are working now is 2 months veg and 2 months bloom +/- Then i saw the Sog thread about getting a harvest for every 2 weeks using 4 grows but my question is the same either way.. because of my NFT system is one system i cannot flush only one of my pipes i have to flush all my pipes then.. Wouldnt that prohibit growth on the other "Grows" When they do not get the nutrition because of me flushing for the harvest of the first grow? In that cycle im gonna flush all the time because there are plants getting ready for harvest every 14 days..? So my question being is i have to have 2 seperate NFT systems operating.. one system the plants are in when in bloom and one system for the grow that are ready for harvest to be flushed?

So can i without problems move the grow that is about to be harvested on to the other NFT system to be flushed and then harvested?

Im finding it pretty hard to explain :(

like drgreentm said...

SOG = Sea of green = many smaller plants instead of large plants. No veg, straight to flower.

2 week harvest = perpetual grow = Harvest 2 plants, put 2 new babies in, irrespective of plant size and veg time.

In answer to your question, you have a few options.

1. Don't flush anything (Won't go there lol).
2. Feed the whole tank plain water to flush including new plants.
3. Second NFT to flush in.

I knoiw what I would do.

I understand what you are trying to say. You want to have a perpetual harvest sea of green style all in one system. If you really want to transplant the plants then you are going to have a lot of problems tearing up roots and more negative effects than positive effects by transplanting them. In my opinion you should be feeding the plants in different growth stages different amounts of food any way. I have also found that if you have lots of water exchange/flow and find a nice low ppm/EC (around 700ppm/1.0EC)than you dont have to worry about new plants getting too much food and you dont have to worry about finishing plants flushing. Please figure out what works best for your system strain and nutrients with all the growth stages combined and do not quote me on the numbers. Im just letting you know what has worked for me. I have never had to flush with a low nutrient concentration. I have never had plants getting too much or getting too little food. Just try to keep the one strain in the system at a time.Check it though,if you are still intent on flushing the last few tubes then it should be as easy as adding a shut off valve somewhere on the line and a seperate drain and very small reservoir/pump with clean and clear water for the last few tubes. That way you can cut the nutrient flow to the last few tubes and start up the clean water flow without upsetting any thing(roots..etc..). Hope your imagination has been sparked. cheers PS. you may have to have a shut off valve on every section and a way to direct the clean water flow to the correct tubes and still have the rest of the system feeding as normal.

I'm using a tray style NFT-ish system and I don't even see how I'd be able to move the plants early on in flowering, without ripping the root mass apart.

I don't get the perpetual system with moving plants anyway. It's way more convenient to move lights instead of plants.
