What the hell has happened to music & people?

OK.. I admit I am a child of the 80's Sam from Who's the Boss was my dream girl along with many other such as Samantha Fox, the Wilson sisters (especially the blonde one) from Heart & even Stacy Q.So, being a relatively kewl dad I try to look into the music my children listen too & I have to say I like Carly Rae Jesop (sp) & was enjoying Hey I just met you & then I clicked on the Nicki Minaj. What the hell is that? She looks like a horse for christ sake. Honestly it was the worst 3 minutes of my life. The video was Starship & honestly when she's in what would normally be a very appealing doggy style position singing it, I thought it was a joke. Is this what is sexy now? I honestly thought it was a joke similar to Weird Al back in the 80's but no, it turns out she's a real star type thing as in "talented" & What the fuck is gangman style? Is this a person names Gangman? is it the dance? Fuck me...Now in MY day, our start were stars & our humorous folk were just that. They joked about them selves. Remember the Humpty Dance? That guy KNEW he was ugly as shit & that was ok. Weird Al was funny & he knew that. OH my dad was right.. music & the world is going to hell in a handbasket :)Just kidding. I know each generation has its thing but wow.. I am really not into today's stars or music.. I didn't think it would get this bad.Now we can discuss Honey Boo Boo.. ARGH!!!!:) I think I better pack the bong a little extra tonight

There is shitty music from every era, just like there is awesome music from every era. There were a lot of polished turds on the record store shelf while you were growing up. Gangnam is a local district of the rapper. I don't understand the popularity of it myself. Weird al is still funny.

Exactly.

Anyone who says music sucks these days is seeing what they want to see. There is a ton of new progressive material coming out every day, and it is some cutting edge magic a lot of the time. It's just not mainstream for the most part, so you have to LOOK for it, rather than expect it to be shoved down your throat like mainstream music is...

Major record label CEO's get greedy, that is all. You have to look for the good music, the internet is a great way to explore because you sure as hell aren't going to find anything from today's mainstream. Independent hard working musicians who believe in themselves deserve your attention. major record labels are dumbing down music because it's more cost efficient. garbage music is cheap and quick to make. They look for sex appeal, because if your artist has a pretty face you can push garbage through them and everyone will love it. Smart people with money manipulating dumber people.......oh, how sad it is that one some still believe this is a conspiracy.

I hate todays music. Not all cause there are still some pretty awesome musicians out there but most of the mainstream shit is garbage. I don't even know who's 'hot' right now because I deliberately avoid todays mainstream music. It's sad as someone already said that it's all about the monayssss. Just want to add that If I had a chance to put a bullet through faggot beibers head, I would without hesitating. And before anyone gangs up on me, I wouldn't ever want to trade lives with him. just horrible.

Thats just it though, While I agree you can find good music, it shouldnt be this hard to find....I think the OP means what happened to mainstream because back in the day I remember I could actully turn on my radio and enjoy what im listenining to...the same cant be said in todays day and age

Eh... I still feel your statements are too broad. Depending on where you live, radio stations are either in the know or they are not... and even in any given area there's the spectrum of different stations with different goals. And on top of all that, radio is a dinosaur that's on it's way out in the bigger picture of things... most of the people who have good taste in music are listening to mp3s they downloaded for free, finding artists on youtube, and MAYBE paying to download albums from bandcamp... if you look at an outdated model to determine the state of the industry, of course you're going to get an inaccurate portrait.

This is just how humanity works. It's how trending works. Everyone jumps ship and leaves you sitting on the shit boat with those who didn't stay fresh to what's going on around them. You can jump to what's current if you keep your head up. Meanwhile, all those people sit on the old boat and complain to each other about how run down it is while the rest of us have jumped ship and are enjoying what's fresh.

Point in case, Justin Bieber in his rightful place at the top of the corporate idiocy chair at the AMA's... progressive-minded individuals aren't even paying attention to that shit, much less complaining about it, they're simply not concerned with it at all and are busy slurping up the goodies that pour fresh from the hose of life's creative channel, if you know where to look.

Too many people wanna be entertainers and nobody wants to be doctors, lawyers, nurses,I won't be surprised if a celebrity runs for president and wins.Everything is excepted nowadays, you got "artist" on top of the charts and can't sing a fuckin lick,at the end of the day,I don't think it's all about talent but rather how far will you go to keep and obtain fame, and these are the people leading the youth.

Remember when you bought an album and all but 1 or 2 songs where great, now you buy a CD and only 1or 2 songs are good and the rest sucks. Then they wonder why people download illegally.

Radio stations play the blandest stuff possible to get the most listeners. The more specialized a song is, the more people who love that style will tune in - but the more it will alienate people who don't love it. They don't care whether you love what they're playing or not, if you're tuned in you're giving them the same ad revenue either way.

Good music is hard to find because of that, but also because there's just more of it around these days. With the internet, a band doesn't have to be bigger than God to get enough exposure and positive feedback to continue making music. Instead of a handful of bands putting out good music as in the past, there are thousands of them now, all vying for exposure. I like to browse audiophile forums for ideas and suggestions, these cats don't spend thousands of dollars to crank shitty pop music. Even the suggestions they give that I don't really like, I can see how it's quality music rather than radio garbage.

I have to disagree. As someone who has a an indie label, hip hop not rap , today's music is really garbage. Some how the generation fell through and is part of the lazy generation. Very little time is spent being creative. most is rehashed garbage with lyrics a 3 year old could make. Then if you go into what they are now calling rock it's even worse. Its like what we used to call whinney college alternative..Emo types in skinny genes crossed with gay hipsters with apple products.. It has just gotten bad and with basically only 2 radio station companies ie Evergreen and Clear Channel its only what pays that gets played. Creativity, longevity and skill wise the music in the last say 5 plus years is garbage. Very very few good things to listen to and that has even crept into the underground scene. Then again it is a reflection on society with a generation of lazy hands out I'm entitled Obama supporters who think they are owed something for doing nothing it does not surprise me. Pride in the quality of what you do has gone out the window today.

Wow, I was agreeing with you all the way and then you pull out this political garbage, let it rest, the election is over. It's just like a few weeks ago i'm out kayaking, about a mile or so offshore is an island I like to fish off of, and some judge or something has one of those signs you stick in your yard all the way out here on a goddamn island. Sometimes it's nice to get away from all the crap of life. I'm on a pot site on a music thread and I have to hear how Obama's ruined music. How fuckin sad.
