Ph question.

Hello everybody

Hope you're all having a kick ass day....

I was wondering if improper Ph throws off growth in soils?

I recently was able to test the Ph of my water and realized it was at 8....

I used lemon to bring it down to 6.5

General hydroponics makes a good ph up and down. Your ph is important because when it's outside it's ranges the nutrients do not dissolve well and are not as readily available to the plant. As a result even know nutes are present plant roots do not have access to them so the plants indicate a deficiency.

I use baking soda to raise and white vinegar to lower the ph in my water ..... read in a few threads that this was a safe way of doing it also?

thought it was sulfuric acid that brought ph down
Any acid lowers pH. It's a question of stability. Citric acid will b ut not when presented as lemon juice. Vinegar is also an acid and will buffer but is like lemon juice as far as stability.

Thanks for the replies everyone....

Although I was wondering.... I have some of the General Hydroponic Ph up and Down but I was wondering if It's bad to use synthetics in organic soil....

I've read that synthetics in soil dehydrate the good bacteria..... so that why I tried using lime.... but are there alternatives to the general hydroponics up and down?

The plants aren't outdoor but are being veg'd & flowered indoor.......

in a organic soil you shouldn't bother to much about PH, the micro life in the soil should take care of it, even in pot`s

tho 8 is a bit high, do your soil contain Lime ? (Dolomite lime or Mearl is a good way to help your soil stabilize the PH)

or if you can collect rain water that is N0. 1 its neutral and plant`s love it, tho then you might need to add some Ca/Mg but with weed you mostlikely have to anyway, at least Mg as I bet your water keeps a lot of Cilium to have such a high PH, when I grow in SS (super soil I allways mix Lime (mearl) in the mix and sumtimes even give em a top dressing later on .. and I just use normal tap water (mine is around 7,5) only when I grow in Coco I correct the PH (to 5,8 in Coco, soil need to be around 6,2-7)

Some pro's and con's on the Baking soda, but yes, Distilled white vinegar is frequently used.

Thanks a lot for the informative reply, it was very helpful.

As far as the lime added to the soil I didn't add any this grow, but I definitely am going to give it a try next time around....

your tap is 7.5? isn't that high? I thought you need to ph your water with a soil grow to no higher than 6.5 after than you get nutrient defs in the zinc and iron spectrum. I also read somehwre the ph of the soil determines the best ph of the water. what do u guys think?

you want to run water through your plant and ph the run off to see if ti raises or lowers it. if its very high ph you may have a hardwater problem, buy a ppm meter anything over 180 is extremely hard water an acceptable number of ppm is under 40 or 50 even. if ppm is the problem a diy mr cle4an reverse osmosis setup will work wonders and get your ppm to 15-6
