How Admin Can Handle Frigging Spammers

Admins - simply limit posts until the "member" has been a member any period of time. Signing up and Immediately pasting spam is a good reason to do this. Figure it out. I'm going to stop even using RIU and their sponsors. This sucks.

It's getting ridiculous now. You've got a good idea there but whatever they do it needs to stop soon cause I'll probably go somewhere else soon too.

People need to vent. It's been going on long enough and is getting worse! The entire first page of threads was spam shit except the stickies.. That's bs. Who really wants to just search their recent posts to go find a convo they are or were in? Besides, I'll bet those stupid links don't even friggin work.

Of course the spam is getting out of hand, it is that time of year. We are doing our best to catch it, when you see it report it as well. They are hitting hard right now, over 700 threads deleted yesterday and I have deleted about 400 so far today.

Then it sounds like you may need to recruit some help as it does`nt even appear to be making a dent

Maybe like 24 hrs..
To a genuine person wanting to be a member, they would understand the delay.
When I signed up for a gun forum, they have a waiting period of up to 3 days, 'so the info can be verified by mods', but I have a feeling it's for this same reason, because I know of many people there that have gone through in 24 hrs.

Look, u brake the law, u should be willing to accept the consequences. My grow is legal, I am totally legal. These spammers have got to be stopped, and if the admin wont take it seriously, well I already belong to 3 or 4 other forums right now. On this site I am a newbie, on the other sites I am a GOD! I enjoy RIU as they do have some of the best growers. But then again, u have condescending assholes, haters, trolls, stoned moderators. I also hate it when a thread goes to shit cause some guy wants to know about BHO, get some deoderant. FUCK!

I otoh report each one at once. It provides globals and admin with a sort of curb tag, "please pick up for recycling". I have no compunctions about reporting spammers, but shy away from reporting genuine site members. cn

Uhhh.. make simple script to delete postings based on username or keywords. Run several times a day.

Its a shame what spammers and scammers are doing lately to message boards, and it isnt just this one. Its now a major issue that threatens to destroy the whole concept of subject based message boards altogether if something isn't drawn up to combat it. Its only going to get worse now that they've figured out how to continually spam message boards. They're not going to stop voluntarily so SOMETHING has to be done with urgent priority to stop this shit.

I blame stupid people, not spammers. Spammers wouldn't exist if people weren't clicking on the links and benefitting them in some way. Spammers are just assholes, the people clicking on the links are the real problem imo.

Kinda like emails claiming that making deposits for some prince from Africa will magically get you rich. You may not deserve to lose that money, but you gotta be smarter than that if you want to keep it.

Why not just make users with under 50/100 posts have to have their posts/threads verified by admin before their post/thread displays on the site?

Dude, do you know how many noobs come here every day, asking the same questions as the day before?

You really want to cut it down, I would institute posting guidelines with required post counts to even start a new thread, gotta contribute something before you get to ask a million questions without searching first.

Hell, I would take the stickys, created a new page for the noobs that is the only viewable sub forum until they read certain key stickys and then pass a basic growing comprehension test from the knowledge they would of gained from the stickies.

Nothing wrong with not knowing, but just jumping on a message board with no prior research to just start asking questions is far more of a clog around here than any spammers have ever been.
