A gun buyback program is a program instituted by an official body to have handguns or other kinds of weapons turned in. A reward is usually posted for these weapons. The goal is to reduce the number of guns, especially illegal guns, on the street, and provide a process where citizens can turn in weapons without fear of prosecution.


On entering the "buyback room" people were required to provide an electric bill, driver's license, or mail that proved an individual's residency.

At the end of a processing table the participant received $200 cash ($100 bills) for each gun turned in.




I have a few questions on this program...

1. Do you really think they destroy all these guns?
2. Were any gun buy backs in the fast and furious scandal? (could not find anything on this...) investigation is still ongoing tho.
3. WHAT criminal is going to turn in illegal guns. show ID, get paid in traceable 100$ bills and not worry about it?
4. Are you for it or think it's ridiculous

This IS IS IS IS WRONG we have a second amendment right to have gun. i had to once call a guy and pay him for a gun. i didnt even think to have myself put on a list as a registered owner,i dont think its anyones business if i have one. the numbers where filed down and it was a great investment and i wouldnt change it. now that i know not a person i now have to go get a registered weapon. but i swear the first government agent who trys to take it will get" im sorry sir but it was stolen 6 months ago"

edit, my grandparents are the most hard core christians yoou'll meet and i asked about the same thing, grandma told me "i dont think its anyones business"

I recently asked my 92 y.o grandfather in law a odd question.. Has your view on life in general changed since you were age 60 till 92. He responded with.
On many things it has changed but on religion is has not.

i made my comment because people are giving up their right to gun because of this one incident with some young man. i understand there was VT,columbine,fort something, ect but the guy in texas was a soldier those guys are meant to have guns and there is no way to prevent them from having one or more. i knew a dude who was going to enlist and already had his own, he even ordered some piece for it which made air something. it was for the barrel inside and out with slates to keep it from over heating it was like a couple hundred for the part , he didnt enlist, but now he is in officer training. point being be smarter than you were before. buy a case that locks and has a pin code or something. people are mindlessly letting themselves be defenseless and people like me wil have to make up for it because they wont pick up a gun

If someone went through the trouble to remove the serial # you can bet your bottom dollar you have a stolen weapon.
And the numbers, even though obliterated can still be forensically recovered. When the metal is stamped it is deformed on an atomic level (not just on the surface) - it is not that difficult for those guys to figure out.

You wouldn't catch me within a city block of that damn thing.

i wanted a gun and got one so that was all there was too it. good to protect, hey if it was stolen it still was able to protect me. i didnt think twice about it because of where i lived i saw so many cops on a daily basis just because i lived right by the main road between rich and "scum". it was either that or try to throw a couple of knives or a sword at someone while i hop to prevent being killed. note that at the time i was on antipsycotics so the meds made sounds seem a little odder

In the UK we have a gun amnesty. You drop it in a box anonymously. People so hysterical about keeping their guns in the light of this string of massacres. It's not once, it's not twice, not even three times...

do you think any drug lords, burglars, murderers, or gang members are turning in guns? i don't. it's mostly good for getting guns out of homes that apparently don't want them anyway.

i doubt many use this program to "turn over a new leaf", and if someone really is trying to change their life, they need a lot more support than some anonymous gun dropoff.

"No questions asked" sounds like a great way to get rid of a hot gun.

Agreed. People are going to be feeling trapped in the loop unless they know they can make a clean break. Just having the thing out of their possession can help people get on with their lives.

And for those habitual criminals, they have a safe way to be rewarded $100-200 for each theft they commit successfully.

Successfully being a key word. Theft of guns is a risky business but there are those who take that risk. And a gun buyback program sounds like an easy fence to me.

just to touch on number one, of course i don't think the guns are destroyed... the same way i don't think any popo or federal agency is burning drugs that they confiscate ... that shit just doens't happen imo.. no way they're just going to burn free money..

Guns are expensive. No one will give up their collection willingly at a fraction of the cost. What I foresee happening is assault rifles will no longer be available to the general public (EG non-military or LE). The Cartels in Mexico will still have easy access though, don't worry about that.
