Depends on the area you're trying to cover. Generally two units provide a better overlapping footprint than a single, more powerful unit.

ha.........he definitely will if he thinks two BS 240 or one BS 500 will give him the same results as a 1000w HID......guessing their are blackstar units he's asking about:P
thats what I was thinking and then I thought oh shit, one year warranty. I've seen several bs go bad. I just had another go bad. picked up some first gen penetrator and although they don't seem as intense as the bs they certainly still are running without a row dropped.

It's not even the warranty issue......to get 1000w HID yields and results, you need too spend BIG money. lowest I'd go would be two CLW 400w(365w actual) solarstorm panels and that's still pushing it at a two grand investment.

right thats the one Blackstar 500w ! , it will be use for 1sq. meter only, next to one 1000k HPS for anothe 1sq meter. ! i want to compare both ! ... I was reading that one of the more important factor for LED is to keep the room between 80 and 86 , since the LED dont provide any heat to the cannopy , what u think guys ? thst why most of the people fail with LED...

No matter what light you use. You want your grow area around 75 degrees. 72 - 78. Plants stop growing at 87 degrees. If its too hot. You will have airy buds and most likely get spider mites.

IF the room temp is 75c under the HPS 1000k it will be 85c, so the canopy need to be at 85c ??? since LED dont produce heat it means that the room it has to be at 85 ??? so the canopy will be at 85 also !!!!

there's some videos on youtube that explains that about LED and HPS ... so if ur room is at 85c your canopy will be at 95 THATS TO HOT INDEED ! WITH HPS !

already order the BS 500w for $525 at amazon !
what's the actual wattage of those BS 500?I don't remember, guessing like 250-280w....don't even expect it to beat a 400w hps:-P ....don't blame the tech later that it wouldn't give you 600w-1000w hid results.....

The 3 watt leds do not run at full capacity. If they did they would fry. Each diode is running around 1.5 - 1.8 watts. So thats Around 250 watts. Theoretically if each diode would run a full 3 watts then it would be 500 watts. But they do not.

Also your canopy temp, floor temp, above light temp. All area you want the same temp. 72 -78. No 10 degree difference from canopy to area unless you want a smaller yield.

This 500W unit covers 12 square feet (3'x4'). 168 individual 3W LED Diodes in a
light this size is extremely effective for flowering your plants. 6 bands
(unique color wavelenghts) of light are used to optimize the light that
flowering plants require. A unique combination of 60 degree, 90 degree, and 120
degree LEDs are used for a perfect balance between penetrating power and
coverage area. Lighthouse Hydro has formulated their lights to maximize the
color spectrum needed for vegetative or flowering growth. .....................

so all that is bullshit ?

Yeah. Each diode os probably pulling 1.68 watts- 280 watts most likely. So at most for flower 8 sq ft. 2x3 - 2x4. For veg 3x4.5.

For lenses
lower degree - more penetration.
Higher degree - larger foot print.
