Oversoaking seeds :(

Hello,

I was planing to keep my seeds in a gass of water for 24 hours before planting. But due to circumstances I left them 52 hours. I know that more than 48 hours is kind of bad. I planted them a week ago but they didn't sprouted. Can I do something to help them? Temperature or something?

they are dead, they suffocated. keep em for a few more days, if they don't sprout by then chuck em'. most seeds sprout in 3-4 days. I don't bother with water soaking and all that gimmicky stuff. just moisten some soil and put the seed in it 1/4" down, doesn't matter if it's point up or down, doesn't effect the growth of the plant.

Yep you drown them.
I also like to plant right in the soil. Water your soil once, and than plant. 4-10 days you should have a sprout. I've had durbin poison sprout in 3 days (was my best time)
soaking your seed, and then using a paper towel for germination, is just seed viability steps.
soaking in water or cloning solution. The seeds that drop to the bottom are good seeds the floater are junk -seed viability-
moist paper towel, the ones that germinate you plant, the ones that don't you toss. -seed viability- why waste your time on a seed that might not even be good. But with buying seeds on line you can pretty much bet the farm that seed will be good. In the old days when all you had was a bag seed and you didn't know what ones were good or bad the soaking and paper towel method were the way to go.

Ok. I will plant them in the ground next time. Just water once good and I'll just let them under the plastic dome. Should I lift the lid for fresh air or they are good until they sprout?

You can use a dome if you want. I plant my seeds in a gallon of soil, when I water I have enough soil to keep the moisture. If you plant in say a small plastic cup with hardly any soil than your probly going to have to worry about your soil drying out. I don't know what your planting in, but the dome won't hurt things. When your seed sprouts take the dome off, make sure she has moist soil. Don't over water.

they might sprout. let them be. just dont let them dry out completely.

if you had them in a cup for that long, the taproot should have busted through. did it?

when you plant them, just push them into the soil where they are level with the top of the soil. then sprinkle some dirt over them.

which side of the seed does the taproot point towards? the pointy or fat end?

Hello,

ty for the replys. Well I planted them in those coin like patches that swell when you water them and placed then into some brown paper like cups with some aditional soil. I placed them inside an ermetic plastic box in a drawer at 20-21 C.

I guess I will plant the next seeds in the same combo ground with the dot from the seed up and water them a little bit every other day. I hope they will do better. I wouldn't have let them more than 24 hours but something came up and I couldn't reach them for some 50+ hours.

I removed some soil from the top to get to the seeds, I see the seed in the same position as planted I think but I didn't dig too see if they have a root or not. If I dig a bit and it's an ok root will the air damage it? At least if I see there is no development I can start some other seeds. The suspence is killing me :P

Watering every other day is probly gonna be to much before it sprouts. Remember just moist soil.

thats why i asked if the taproot broke in the water..and i havent gotten a reply
Hello again,

I am sorry, I didn't got that. Well they cracked and a little root came out of the seed while they were in the water. A little root somewhere around .5-.7 mm.

then they will work! plant the seed very shallow, just till it sits flat with the soil, and then cover it with some dirt. give it one or two good gentle pushes to pack the sprinkled dirt

I like my tap root a little longer when I take them out of the water but I agree bmeat they should sprout fine.

Yes, I understand. But they were in water for 50+ hours. So I decided to get them out, 6 days ago. IDK what to think now. I'll wait a couple of days more.

dig them up gently and see if theyre growing. if they are, replant in a proper position

dont dig on top of the seed, dig around it

Well I planted then with the little root down. It isn't ok? What happens if I dig on top? I did that already to one seed to see it's position. Should I cover it with dirt and water it a little bit?
