Question about the potency of marijuana... slightly confused here

I was just sitting around doing a little research on strains, putting together a mental list of strains I'd like to grow in the future. I came across a post where somebody was raving about the potency of Green House Seeds "white rhino". I have heard many other positive things about this strain so I decided to look into it. I was very surprised to see that they list it's THC% at 11%. This pretty much debunks the theory that the more THC, the stronger the weed....
Was just wondering if someone had a moment to explain this???

if you really think about it, no matter the THC as long as its a decent amount, it still more or less is an overall choice. you like one thing, some like another.

one thing is for sure tho, some strains are just flat out stronger than others.
like pre98 bubba for instance, i dont think ive ever seen a rediculous THC % for it, and i know damn sure if its REAL pre98 it will kick almost anyones ass when done right.

some people dont like white widow and complain even tho its resinous that it lacks power, well ive had some bomb widow before. so its hard to judge from THC%

If you want Rhino go to Mr. Nice and buy his Medicine Man strain. Plus the CBD content of Rhino is higher than many other strains.

Thc is not the only thing contributing to the high. The level of cbd and cbn as well as terpenes and I'm sure other things we don't know about are affecting our high.

I did notice the cbd and cbn% in the description and figured that had to have something to do with it.... Getting some great responses here!!! The strongest strain I have grown personally imo was Sannies Sugar Punch...BUT have come across some random bag weed over the years that have just about knocked my ass out...and I'm fairly sure that it didn't come from any hi-tech hydro garden..lol~ Kind of an interesting topic...to me anyway Part of me thinks that you have to take these "alleged" THC%'s with a grain of salt... lots of competition so plenty of marketing gimmicks... I'd trust the info I gather here over the breeders specs anyday!!!

yeah i know its a hit or miss thing... one of the best strains ive ever grown high-wise has been Nirvana's chrystal. and one of the strongest ive ever smoked period,but not grown myself, was Nirvana's Raspberry Cough. and Nirvana gets bashed BIG time on these boards... i hear it all the time.

I have two different phenotypes of their White Rhino just switched to flower. ask away if u want... one of the pheno's has been grown a ton of times already.

How would you describe it's strength??? I was just surprised to see them list the THC content at 11%.... seems very low for something that will knock you on your butt....lol~ I think however, we've already come to the conclusion that those numbers are not the only factor in any given strains overall strength...

well the pheno that was grown before: it wasnt super strong. i wasnt thrilled with the potency. it just was easy to grow. it had a spicey/sweet flavor. grows fast and big. yields big. more sativa than expected. im giving it a final chance this time around, and seeing if im taking it too far.

the other pheno is very sour smelling, much more indica, and is growing much slower. i had a wide difference between the two, so far anyways. so maybe this one will be a bit more potent.

yes, I've noticed these specs quite a bit more lately with the strains targeted more to the medical user~

also this seems relevant...ive heard that back in the day the average thc content being around 6 percent or ten or whatever was actually the whole bud ground up and tested so 6 percent of the total weight was thc where as now they got smart and are testing extracts or kief so the thc percentages havent gone up by more than double but instead the other matter in the test has been reduced to show a higher thc percentage..so it may be that some companies are doing it old school and coming in at around 13 percent and then another guy with the same thc content gets his tested without green matter and shows a 23 percent thc content.....idk the validity of this but remember i saw it somewhere where i was prone to believe it...

the medicine man looks killer!! white rhino was the first name brand herb i ever smoke that straight rocked my world for a couple hours..hearing going in and out, laughing at everything, things moving oddly like a flip book from spot to spot...idk if it was medicine man but ill tell ya what when i have run out of my collection i will surely be growing some!

I think that a ton of the differances that you see are from the tests not being accurate. I've heard about alot of problems wth labs not getting the numbers straight. I would imagine that some of the breeders that list THC% are using differant labs, and perhaps are truer numbers. If you read through the lists of seeds on attitude for example, its not hard to find TONS that list as having over 20% THC. Personally I find it very hard to believe that 75% of the strains out there have over 20%. Now I realize I just pulled that 75% number out of my ass, but I think you guys get my point. I'm sure whether it is on purpose or not, the breeders are thrilled to get reports that say 20+%, so they surely don't contest this.

Too many variables, given potency, cbn/thc ratio, metabolism, toxicity/tolerance, etc. Grow what works for you. It'll take some testing, which i'm NEVER adverse to

White Rhino is a high CBD strain and its a knockout for sure. We smoked that in Kiev and could not get outside about 4 hours. If you want to seat on your ass the whole day grow it. Thats a sledge hammer .....

MNS medicine man was garabage! ran 40 found nothing even close to Nirvanas White Rhino from 2004-5ish. Medicine man was ok potency and taste but Nirvanas tasted great and was high potency.

I don't know exactly how they do the tests, but it wouldn't make any sense to me to grind up stems with it if you were trying to get an accurate test. I've read several times about some lab in Arizona I think that is notorious for inaccurate tests. If you talk to some professional growers, that know their shit, and have had there buds tested, I'd bet that there are very very few strains that have any where near 20%. I could be very wrong, but thats what I've gathered from the reading I've done over the years. Most of the killer strains are prolly between 10-15% would be my guess, and the percentage of cbd, and cbn certainly has as much effect on the high as anything else too.
