Newbie question; Growing on closed terrace.

First off, I'd like to thank y'all for answering my questions. I really appreciate it. There are some good souls out there.

Secondly. I'm nearly giving up the indoor growing bit till I can afford some LED lighting, and I was wondering if this could work;
I've planted 5 auto flowering (http://makkaseeds.com/automakka-47) seeds, and instead of using an HID and worrying about burning down the building, I'd like to try and leave them on the terrace, which is isolated by windows. It generally gets a lot of sun, though this is a rather cold time. I've got a little heater to maintain the temperature.

Is it possible to get some decent buds from doing this??? I'm enclosing some photos so y'all can take a look.
Any advice would be great, as to how I could make this idea work.

I still have the HID light kit. Not sure I can get my money back for it. I feel a little bit defeated, but I'm trying to go the out door, see if I can have a little success.

Thanks folks!

...why are you giving up on the indoor grow? ...what happened that makes you think it can't be done? ...isn't weed still illegal in Spain? ...don't you risk arrest if your terrace garden is discovered?

Hey Bozo. Well, just for the moment. Reason I'm giving up, is that I'm just really worried about explosions, fires, etc. Not too mention, if the light is on, I won't practically be able to do anything at home like, take a shower, cook food, etc, because all the power would go out.
But I believe its actually legal to have up to 3 plants. That being said, I have 5. But I'm not too worried about being discovered. The worst they'll do is give me a ticket and confiscate my plants. Should be fine though.

Are my plants beyond repair? They're about 2 weeks old... the cold is slowing things down a bit...

If I can save up some cash, I'll send for some of those GROW LED's that seem to be more cost effective and less dangerous. Anyone know anything about those?

...is the wiring in your house inferior in some way? ...i don't mean to be a pain but how do you know you can't use HID, ...which btw aren't inherently dangerous as long as you understand how they function and apply a little common sense, ...if your house is wired correctly it should be able to run a HID light with no problem, for example, a 400watt HPS will draw less power than most common electrical space heaters, ...a space heater is much more likely to cause problems than a light.

...also, if you are certain HID is unworkable there are other alternatives besides LED which are still very expensive and to some degree still experimental, ...for example, PLLs are an excellant choice, as are T5's, ...hell, even common CFLs can grow some hellacious bud.

here's a couple pictures to illustrate what i mean, first the PLLs as i think these are the best choice if you absolutely can't use HID and then a couple of some common CFLs i used when i first started out.

...if you want it bad enough there are ways for you to succeed if you just don't give up.

peace, bozo

btw, those PLLs are a newish form of CFLs that are superior to the common twisty bulbs partly because they are straight so spread the light more efficiently and also because they are remote ballasted so most of the heat is removed from the growspace.

Bozo, these are photos of my indoor set up. I think it might be dangerous, but at the moment, I couldn't hang the light from anything else.
My entire apartment is made out of wood.
As a precaution I put the balast in a Glass tray that can withstand oven temperatures, but maybe thats stupid...dunno.
plus to keep out light, I used a plastic sheet that I bought at the grow store. Could that burn right up? not to mention its close to the light, as the space is so small.
let me know what you think....

about the building, yeah its more than 100 years old, so the electrical wiring is pretty weak. The wattage of my lamp is 400wtts I believe. If I have the oven and the lamp on at the same time, it could blow the power....possibly

...judging by those pictures i'd say you have the beginnings of a nice little setup, you just need to gain some basic skills in how to put it all together and if you share, as you are doing now, people will help you find solutions to the obstacles in your way, ...if there is a wall, let's climb the phuck over it, lol.

anyway, here is a thread on basic electrical safety and wiring that i think you should take a look through so you'll know what is safe and what isn't.

Growroom Electricity and Wiring

...and here is another excellent thread dealing with another key element to indoor growing, ventilation.

Ventilation 101

...i know it kinda sucks that there are no easy answers but if you read these threads you will come away with a much better understanding of what is required and then we can begin getting you set up in a safe and productive indoor operation.

2013-01-14 00.13.07.jpgWell.. One thing I could suggest is cfls.. Until u get ur leds.. Leds look cool as shit n ive seen some nice buds. Start up cost is alot.. I just switched my hps cuz it was getting to hot in my grow space. Like 90/95deg burnt my plants up.. O went cfls my temp stays 72/75 now. PERFECT!.. Plus I got 12 bulbs. Like 250 watts in put over 1000 out. Personally I think cfls are great. Lower power usage an stay nice n cool.

Interesting... whats the cost of the cfls?
Thanks for the input!

One question: do Cfls lights work through all the phases of growth? Or do you have to change lighting?
...CFLs will work fine throughout all stages of life and for a personal headstash grow they are fine, ...if you look back at my first posting in this thread you can see my CFL setup and i grew with nothing but those CFLs for more than a year.

...here's a few CFL budshots to show what you could expect.

...actually, i still use the CFLs from time to time, for small seedruns and such.

Thanks for the info!
I'll keep y'all posted on what happens next, and probably post another question soon...
