I think I've got the rot !!!

Hi all

I'm 4 weeks into flower on my first grow which is 2 AK 48 12-12 from seed. The problem I think I've got after reading A LOT of info is root rot on one of them, and this is why. 2 weeks ago I went into my grow tent and all the leaves were really droopy and my soil was taking much longer to dry out than previous times, the temps had dropped in the last few days and the leaves are yellowing from the bottom up. Also today I noticed a sort of damp "rotting" smell in my grow tent that added to my diagnosis, so I have 3 questions......

1. Does this sound like root rot ?
2. If it is root rot can I fix the problem or do I put it down to experience ?
3. What are good preventative measures when growing in soil to make sure this doesnt happen again !!?!

I was watering it when the pot was light which was about every 2 days, they are 15 litre pots but they do have drainage holes
 
Okay, just making sure it's not just an overwatering issue. Sounds like something else... are you feeding them yet? What is your soil?
 
Transplant it into a bigger pot. Make sure to use a complete fertilizer that contains all trace nutrients. A little hydrogen peroxide will help it dry out faster.

I have grown plants in really crappy soil that was taking 5 or 6 days to dry out. I started giving them a teaspoon per gallon of 35% hydrogen peroxide and they started drying out every 24 hours. It is amazing stuff and it will kill any rot if you have it.

Doubtful you have root rot though, pretty rare in soil. Use some dolomite lime too, that will eliminate PH as an issue.
 
Hell look at the roots and repot bigger..30% perlite. You will see if they are a mess.

I've got them in 15 litre pots which I thought was big enough not to need to repot them. I also decided to use Biobizz All mix soil cause Its a good quality soil. I think my next step is to give hydrogen peroxide a go, but seeing I'm no expert if this isnt root rot will it do more harm than good using it ??

Dude, just flip the plant upside down holding the stem between your finger and slide it out of the pot and look at the damn roots! Dont go dumping peroxide all over them when you dont even know yet if that is your problem.

If they just stopped uptaking, maybe it's a PH problem. If I get mine too hot from nutes the soil gets toxic and the plant wont even uptake water, so the pots just sit wet and the plant slowly dies. FLush your medium and give them a light dose of nutes and go from there. If after looking at the roots you feel they need more room, then repot it in another gallon or two of soil and Im sure she will recover. She doesn't look unhealthy, just unhappy ATM.
 
From what I've read when growing in good phd soil you don't have to worry too much about the ph of the water because the soil buffers it, I know if you use water with a ph of something like 3 or 9 it won't be good but from the info I've read my tap water with a ph of around 7 is fine to use. Am I right in thinking this and would it be ok to use my tap water to flush the plant ?

make sure your humidity in the room stays between 50%-60% in flowering, temps 70 -85 degrees Fahrenheit when lights on and between 65 and 75 when lights out. constant air circulation you have to control the environment. if you stay within these parameters then you should never have to worry about fungus, mold or root rot issues. tap water is OK if you let it sit open for 24 hours. I also put river rock layer at the bottom of pots to assist with drainage. vent fan pulling hot stale air out from the ceiling and fresh air intake near the floor are highly recommended as well as a circulation fan.

No you're not fine thinking like that. A swing of like .3 ph is too much imo. People need to stop saying that people who grow in "good" soil don't need to adjust ph. I don't like my ph to be off more than .2 honestly. A little swing can cause major issues. Don't use peroxide in soil either. Use compost teas. Get a bag of good quality hummus, or something like that. Ancient forest is what I use. Combat the mold/fungus with your good fungus/microbes from the tea.
