Ive had great success with the aerogarden.... I have successfully harvested 3 grows and personaly witnessed a friend harvest some mighty shit...

And the simple answer to this question is:

Yes, the Aerogarden is a good way to get into hydroponics.

I agree with tek it is a good way to get into hydro, but so is a diy system, and the aerogarden is an expensive learning curve. To be honest i would rather take a 5 gallon bucket add a net cup some rocwool, drop in some airstones, and a pump, now you have basically a aerogarden with a 5 gallon rez. more like a dwc but you get the point. the setup i just listed might cost $30, probably less but you have around $120 left for a Good light and if im right you can probably get a hps for that price at htg or ebay.

Yea, your right Kaos, but if I read what you just wrote 2 years ago, it would have been right over my head and how easy it actually probobly is, to make your own big aerogarden...

But for myself I give the aerogarden credit in allowing me to see on a first hand basis the elements and fundamentals that go into growing, that would have been impossible to understand without actually seeing it....researching much on this site at the same time...

I Just ask everybody to not be so harsh on the little fella, because the Aerogarden is definitley helping the cause....

Well it's not like you NEED an aerogarden to jump into hydroponics. I read up for like 2 weeks straight, bought the parts for a dwc to use with a tomato plant, and have been reading up since and know most the stuff I could need to know. If you READ and look at PICTURES and TALK to people you don't NEED to drop $150 on an aerogarden just to learn it. I've been reading up on hydroponic cultivation for 3 or so months now and am always soaking in new knowledge every time I look around.

I use the AG for clones and veg growth. It consistently turns out plants that produce no less than one ounce per plant in my DWC. The AG is the only VEG box I have and it does its job exceptionally well, and its a great way to learn the ups and downs of hydro. And its one of the fastest cloners ever. thanks

Yes,this is the exact basis of this tread.And i think im walking away with this conclusion too.That it is one of the best ways to get into hydro.Although many would disagree ,but they are prolly ppl that have expirence with hydro(unlike myself)

Of course i could easily make a DWC.But the AG controls water level and PPM (or atleast in the pro model series).So all i need to do is worry about lite, ventilation and temp.And possibly better nutes.

i agree. this was a great tool to learn on with out having to spend the time and effort to build one.

with that said, the AG leans on the learning of how to GROW not how to build.

the grow CYCLE leans on the learning of how to BUILD not how to grow :mrgreen:

yes i was lazy and thought what a neat item. i expected a little modification. (stupid late night infomercial and good weed.):spew::hump:

had i tried to build one, i might have been overwhelmed to the point of not actually growing. now that i know i can easily build one better to suit MY special needs of the area i choose to grow in.

and knowing is half the battle,:confused:

if i would not have bought the Aerogarden i would have never understood the basics to building my own DWC. much less grow a good looking plant. its a great way to enter hydroponics.
