HID lights - Is there a difference in bulbs?

Hey everybody...

I was just wondering if there is a big difference in the $20 HID bulbs and the $150 bulbs? And if there is a difference, would this difference be beneficial to a noob?

I can see there are slight differences in the amount of lumens produced, but from what I have seen there is only about a 10% lumen increase, but a 500% increase in price. I can see if you are a pro and have your system running like a swiss clock, then adding 10% lumens could be beneficial. However, for a noob like myself I cant really see this small difference in lumens making a huge difference.

Any thoughts?

not really.. like you said mabey a 10% increase or more in lumens, what your prob. talking about is horticulture bulbs.. if you have the money id say go for it.. if not then regular ol hids will work great, just make sure your at the right spectrum for the right stage. cooler(blue)65k for veg.. and warmer(red)27k for flowering.. put your funds into other things..

You may see a difference in initial lumens, light spectrum, and estimated lamp life.
That said, I have struggled to justify the cost of a high-end hortilux lamp. If you get a horticultural lamp (w/grow spectrum) from a known manufacturer, you should be in good shape. I got a Ushio 400W for $45 bucks.
