I read that thread on GC before this one. Now after reading this one I'm about to start growing some tobacco myself as well. Thanks BBbubblegum! I'm almost positive my girlfriend won't thank you, but I sure do!

BBbublegum,

Hi, I grew tobacco 4-5 years ago and have two big bundles of whole plants hanging on my den wall,
Havana Burley #1 & #9. I got the seeds and information about growing, rolling and curing from old 'Tobacco Dan' on Tobacco Talk Forum.com. He lives in Pennsylvania, next to a Tobacco Amish farmer and can send seeds or 5 - 10 - 50 Lbs of leaf, U.P.S. delivered to your door. Now old Dan doesn't smoke weed, so be cool but you can learn anything you want to know there on Tobacco Talk.

Thank you...

Little update, no pics, but all the tobbacco have been transplanted and move out. They are looking nice and healthy. Keeping them indoors in a window for a few months. Should be out by May.

I always try and think of anti smokers as just pro life rather than anti choice, but I'm one of those feels-guilty-after smokers. Ah we'll maybe that'll make me quit eventually but as it is I'm growing some. I live with a smoker so ultimately I don't have to puff it all, but I'm doubting it'll be substantial. I know they grow quite tall, how tall exactly? Fence is about 7 foot or so idk. I doubt anything will reach that in Britain lol. But it needs width I assume and I'm working with a 3-4 meter wide area, about a meter depth. Waste of time? Could just plant those alpine strawberries

I am trying my hand at tobacco this year. I would like some for blunts and I have some that's good for bug repellent. I really want to get a cigar press from ebay or something. It would be nice to roll a good blunt nicely pressed with a binder and wrapped in a nice wrapper. I sprouted my seeds a little late. I may have to wait until next year to get bigger plants. I have two of each one for seed one for harvesting leaves. This year I will probably get mini blunt wraps. LOL. Does anybody know if they like a lot of Nitrogen in the soil. I was thinking of top feeding with a little super soil if they show signs of being hungry.

You`ll be ok, the seed to 3" stage is tediously slow but growth gets very rapid after that. One plant in a typical growbag (general purpose compost) will top 6ft high by 3ft around inside 3 months. Watch out for slugs and snails.

my friend has at least 12 tobacco plants all about 6 inches big, I think he's going to give me one or two, how big can they get? would it be advisable to plant em right next to my buds?

This bed is about 14 ft long. I think I got about 10 lbs of tobacco that harvest. I let them flower because it's pretty and I like smoking flowers.
Plants are about 6ft high.

Yeah they seem to be the only plant that doesn't get eaten by pests. Might be the peppery smell they put out.

what i do know about tobacco is the stalk that comes out the middle gets pruned off and the leaves are pruned down to 10 and it needs at least 5 gals of soil in a container

i started some tobacco was gonna be my first time. first they took like forever to start, 2-3 weeks at least to germinate which is sorta normal but obv frustrating. then i left them in a hot windowsill and all but one survived. that was gonna be my baby but slugs got it ._. smoke some for me bros

FWIW got a catalog in the mail from J. L. Hudson, seed sellers. They have 20 strains of tobacco seeds along with other exotics.

Interesting thread.
I have just realized that, after 27 years of smoking Golden Virginia Hand Rolling Tobacco, I know literally nothing about the plant.
And the nearest I ever came to learning something about it was by accident when I watched the Richard Geer, Jodie Foster Chic Flick 'Somersby'.

I know that predicting yield is impossible but how much smokable tobacco does a competent grower get from a single plant?
I don't know if it's 0.1g or 25kg...!!!
Are there websites that are devoted to Growiing Tobacco as a Hobby?
Is it possible to grow in wetter. colder climates (UK)?
