Problems starting out

Okay, so I'm very serious about growing. I just finished reading 'Growing Elite Marijuana', and while it gave me a great overall perspective, I haven't been able to get off the ground.

My constraint is that I have very little space. I cannot dedicate a room or even a closet. I am looking for a growbox type of setup that I can hide behind my bed or in the closet. However, I'm willing to invest up to $1000 if required.

So the book recommended soil as the growing medium for newbies because it is easier and more forgiving. But from my research I could not find a a compact grow box that will allow me to grow in soil. Are all grow boxes only for hydroponic growing?

Also, I want the grow box to be as automated as possible. Are there grow boxes that even detect pH changes and adjust the nutrients accordingly and stuff?

Please help me get off the ground!

what wou want is a grow tent, its easy to find one that fits ur closet. i recomend www.growtents.com they ship very fast and discreetly, they also have good fan and filter combos. i have the 3x2x5.3 tent in my closet and i love it. if you stick to shorter plant varietys you have plenty of room for pots and lights and such with room left to grow

there are also automated grow boxed otu there that literaly are computer controled hydroponics machines that will basicly do it all for you, but they are very very expensive compared to the equivilent gear

What about a steel filing cabinet? If not, and the smallest tent is to large, go get some frame of reference in the Micro Grows Section of Indoor Growing. People are getting decent yields out of gutted out PC cases. Good luck...

Yeah I could definitely do one of the smaller tents. They don't seem to be automated at all though. Are there more sophisticated systems that will take care of ventilation, lights / timing, irrigation, etc?

i suggest doing one plant Deep water culture style, maybe 2x2 or 3x3 if you can, with a 400w setup. for 220 you can buy a switchable Lumatek ballast that can do 400,600 and 1000. get a 6inch inline fan with a controler and air cooled hood an your on you way. as far as grow room, id keep it simple. 2x4's and some kind of paneling, white you can find it. much cheaper than a box or tent, but its less attractive. now you should have plenty of money for genetics and food. good luck

I'm on my first grow. I went with a DIY reclaimed stealth cabinet (2'x3'x4' tall), using coco and CFL. I have not read that book, but I probably should. (I have read others.)

I only have the one plant now (you can see it in my journal), which I've tied down (LST) to spread out some under my CFL lighting (6x26W). I know I am far from doing this the best way. However, it is working and I'm getting something none of the books can give me - hands on experience.

I might do hydro in the future, but I'm only going to have a couple of plants for a personal grow in a small space. So, I will continue to LST or SCROG or whatever. This attention is enjoyable, but also seems to defeat the purpose of a sealed automated chamber. That's my choice - hydro or not, I like working with my plant(s) on a daily basis.

My cabinet is somewhat stealthy. I don't know if that is your goal or not. However, keep in mind that if you grow, you will harvest (you hope). Odor control will always be a big issue for stealth.

There's a whole forum section here https://www.rollitup.org/stealth-micro-cab-growing/

Stick with soil for your first grow.. I would go with a 250hps but you also have not given us exact dimensions.. you say you want an automated system but its really not hard to take care of your plant.. Give it water and make sure the lights are at the right distance from the tops of the plants.. too close and you will burn them.. too far away and they will stretch in a bad way.. Just buy some seeds, plant in dirt and watch them grow. Good luck
