I started mine when she was about 12" tall, and went gently, and gradually increased the tension.
You don't need anything to 'hold the string, you tie a loop at one end, large enough to slip over all your leaves on the branch, slide the loop around the branch (make sure it's not a slipknot so it doesn't tighten up and constrict around the branch. Here's a link to a fairly easy end loop, easier than the one I use, but this will work for you.)

Then take the other end of the string, and tie it through whatever hole you want.
Here is a pic showing a pretty good shot of the holes I drilled in the 1 gallon bucket I put her in first.
Sorry, I forgot your water question.
That's a call you will have to make.
When my soil is like you describe, I always go ahead and water, because I don't like the soil to get completely dried out.
When she was in the smaller bucket, I was watering about every third or fourth day, so ya, 96hrs is not out of the question.
Here's one that shows good in the 5 gal. that she is in now.
See how I have the row of holes around the top and the strings tied there?
Sorry, forgot the link after all that.

:wall: ok im a fuckn idiot!! i was thinkin you need to tie around somethin when you obviously tie around THE DRILL HOLES lmao ima retard now i c!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So your saying drill the holes and tie a bowline knot first, loop around the wanted branch and come back to the hole with another bowline knot or just reg? makes alot more sense now!!!! Thanks once again !!!:bigjoint:

I was no boy scout so this knot business is second language to me, but yes you want to tie it through the holes around your plant, nothing to thin. And do not believe everything you read about the propaganda for or against leds, you really have to find your own way with them, fuck hid tho imo.

Naw, just the loop at the branch end, large enough to slip past the leaves, then just any knot to tie it off (something easy to untie because you might want to adjust the tension) after you run it through the hole that you want.

I just use nylon string, like a thick kite string, but thinner than a shoelace.
If you use something too thick, you have to drill larger holes, and if you criss cross in the center like I did, it gets kinda messy.
I had most of the branches tied inwards towards the main stalk once they started up, otherwise she would have ended up looking like a funnel.
That is how I got the barrel shape, instead of looking like a bowl.

ahhhhh ok gotchya ill prolly be ask you more questions on LST as time comes for me to start it. Ill prolly start training in a week or two, i think there too small right now?? im not sure...

QUICK QUESTIONS ON WATERING:

So tomorrow i'll be doing my first watering. I did water them right after i did transplant but have yet to water them, by tomorrow morning that will be 4-1/2 days growing. So what i want to know is.....

How is watering regularly now? Should i "saturate" the soil again as i did when transplanting? (do i get them very wet and let the extra drain and dump the excess out my drip pans?) or.....?

How do you guys water? as in how do you poor the water in? or do you spray your plants?

ALSO I DONT NEED ANY NUTES CORRECT? (I AM USING FOX FARM OCEAN FOREST)

Pour water till some drips out the bottom. OF soil has nutes in it so you should be fine for a while.

That's fine.
Check to see if it's time like you did with your finger, or before you water tomorrow, lift the pot and get an idea of the wieght.
Then, after you water and let it drain, feel the weight again.
Then you have a reference of how dry the soil is.
After a while, you'll be comfortable just lifting the pot to check.

If you water like you described, that's how a lot of people do it, to make sure ALL the soil is watered, not just maybe the top or one side of the pot.
No nutes for a bit, a month or 3 weeks maybe, unless you see some yellowing, then check first and ask to make sure it's an N deficiency, not something else or overwatering (I doubt you'll do that, since you're being so cautious).

Your watering method you got is pretty sound, but like bak said with experience you will learn wet/dry weight of your soil. I would def give it another week so when you bend it you are not unsettling the roots, plant needs to be rooted in pretty good before I wouild think about it. I would give them a top then lst, because you will notice they instantly bush out when you cut and you pretty much have to start lst so all of the plant gets light.

Yah i've been seeing alot of people say "pick up the bucket before/after watering to get the feel of weight" guess i'll be doing that today :P cant wait till i can tell there dry by the weight!!! although i like to stick my finger in moist things, that will be nicer.

Ok cool gotchya and i think i was being pretty sure i got the whole soil wet and not just half or the top, i poured in with a water bottle and basically poured in 1 bottle in about 30-45seconds, Go back to kitchen fill up bottle, come back repeat, my first watering i did 3 16oz water bottles filled, then by the time i was at the last one i decided to go around and pour 1 more bottle into each plant. So over all i poured in i would say slightly under 64oz of water. Some one told me use 1/2 gal to 1 gal of water per watering cycle each plant? so i used about a half a gallon and each one was draining well. I'll prolly do the same in a minute here when i water, going to run to home depot, What can i use to Hold some branches up?

And yah i figured atleast a couple weeks because people telling me FF is pretty "hot". And im watching these things like a hawk!!!! prolly shouldnt as its making the days seem longer!!! :cuss: Come on girls grow!!!!

Thanks both of you wouldnt be so cautious/sound on my watering if it wasnt for you guys! Yah i was really think atleast a week maybe even two? it seems the plant is growing more leafs than rather up bound? is this normal? to be honest i cant really tell if it has grown in height or not im just guessing no because from my eye sight it seems as if it hasnt.

TOPPING AND LST
Ok so i read Uncle Bens thread (like 10pages this morning lol) and WOW!!!!! those things he pulled off are AMAZING. Ok so From what i was reading he stated, Let the plant get up to 5 6 nodes ( im guessing nodes are when branches part off and theres kind like a v or y shape into it? or....?? Because If thats correct and hes saying to cut right above the 2nd node than that would be more than half of my plant!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If i were to cut off that much of my plants they would look dead??? Idk i might be confused......

They were bought as clones and they were in rough shape. I dont think the light had much to do with it :):):)

and yah i bought them "stretched" like that. I guess i know what to look for when i go to buy my next round of girls in a couple months  :wall::wall:

So how long does it take to be able to "see" height growth?

His is more of a from seed kind of situation there, that would indeed be plant suicide lol, I just take off the first node of new growth, try to peel back some of the new leaves developing to really get in there when you cut, have not seen up close pics of your new growth, but leds keep the nodes really tight so you are seeing new growth, just not the stretched you started with lol. Hold your nuts, it is hard to not to want to fuck with them but soon you will notice it is part of your routine and you are gonna be at harvest thinking where did the time go, but you will still be impatient then too lol as you are waiting for the weed to dry and cure. Your doing fine dont let meat beat you up, where are the mods? you are not wanted if you are just gonna leave one liners so how bout you tenderize your meat a lil....
