Feline Sanitary Cut

I have a lush long haired cat who is 5 years old... Every few months he needs a "sanitary cut", if you know what I mean. It is a fucking nightmare.
Ever tried to shave a cats asshole? He hates it, we hate it, it sucks.
We do it in about three waves, separated by a couple hours, giving him treats between each session. It takes about a week before he trusts us again. With anything else like ear cleaning he can be held still with a tight grab at the neck, tilting his head up with pressure on his back. Nothing keeps him chill when shaving his ass though.

I also dont like the ones who shed excessively too.. my Husky mix is a nightmare next to my sticky plants...

Yeah, this guy is especially lush with hair. Shit gets caught in there and eventually there is no way for him to part ways with his deuce... blockage. Then they can get urinary tract infections which is painful and leads to pissing all over.

The stench is how I know it is time. I should catch it earlier, but I just sort of forget. I don't exactly write "shave *%^&& asshole" on my calendar. haha.
This one got worse than usual... might get him some antibiotic just in case.

We work together, in the bathroom, so they cannot escape. One of us will hold the cat, stretching arms and legs out, etc. The other clips away. It takes a while, so we will pause to let the clippers cool, and give them a break. We try to hit them every 3 months. We rescued them a few years ago, when they were already a couple years old. They got used to it pretty quick. Patience is huge!

p.s. I have a Himalayan who was horribly matted when she was a rescue kitten. Once she was healthy and eating well, I brought her in for a shaving.

Now I bush her often - mostly with a furminator style brush, and have not had to have her shaved or clipped at all. Maybe her fur is just long and not very long. Yeah, she gets matts that I have to work out but not as much a problem (or sanitary issue) as I thought she would be.
