Basically you cut off a branch to clone (let it grow its own roots) and set it to 12/12 light schedule so that it begins to flower (in a different room/growspace than your vegging plants). After about 10 days itll either grow pistils or pollen sacks and youll know that the plant from which the branch originated from is either a male or female. Then you can remove the males and focus on letting the females grow (be tied down to) the screen. Semi complicated but it works. Fem seeds or clones would of course mean you dont have to worry about it.

I would raise the top as much as I could. If I were building it I would make it 6ft tall (I would also be using HPS/MH). If you are deadset on using CFL then I would also line the sides of the box with CFL as well. You need to get plenty of light all around them.

no problem less than a month ago i knew nothing about cannabis. i have always been into flower and vegetables but was never in the position to grow.
take all advice with a grain of salt do some research and see what will work best for you.

Looking good so far and like author said if using cfls make sure u get some on the sides of walls so ur lower growth on the plants get as much light as they can! I just recently started a cfl grow I have 6 seeds going right now 5 are germinated :) do u have a fresh air intake to ur box and a fan pulling air out the top taking out old air/heat? When u gonna be starting the beans?

thats the space i have to work with for now, i might look into a 150w hps after this first grow

Dont worry too much about raising the roof. Like I said before, you could probably even go without raising it and just lower the screen. (If you were to use HPS then of course youd need more space but thats another grow). Side lighting wont be that important for you either since you have the screen in place which will give you an even canopy and less budsights on the sides to worry about. With CFLs, any buds that arent directly exposed to the CFLs will be very small anyways, so its best just to write them off and concentrate on the main ones towards the top. Theres always more lights and more room that you can add but in general youve already got a decent box to work with.

ok so i had a idea all day long, and this is what i came up with, once i run out of room from pulling the lights straight up, i can hang the on the top corners on the box like so:

Was gone a few days (amsterdam), the corner lighting might work, you just wanna make sure the bulbs are only a few inches away from the top. Ideally the bulbs are in the middle but it might not really make much of a difference if they are slightly off towards the corners like that.
What does it look like with the screen in?

the actual screen is not in the pic but you can get a idea of where it will be, im gnna stick it with it and hope for the best im really happy how every thing is fitting in there, the exhaust fan how ever is now going to be mounted on the roof outside the box sucking air directly from the top blowing out the thur a vent coming out the roof of the building where the grow cabinet is in.

(as you can see i got those long planters, love em! the hold the same if not more soil the the ones i was going to use in the beginning, with HALF the height. good call on those man. THANKS!

That looks pretty good. I would say you dont need to raise the roof, but possibly lower the screen an inch or two. Theres enough space from pot to screen for the plants to grow in that you can lower it a bit without any problems. Did you get any trays for the pots? Looks like they are a really nice fit. When do you plan on starting to germinate and be sure to do a temp test with all lights and fan on.

The pots have a built in tray that snaps in at the bottom. Do you think I should add another? One part of my ventilation setup I don't have figured out is, when should my fans be on? I do plan to use a thermostat.
Should the exhaust be on all the time or wired to the t-stat. Also the fan blowing at the plants, should that be on all the time or wired to the t-stat as well.
As of yesterday (2-14-13) 6 of my 10 seeds have spouted. The other 4 maybe today.

whats up? I'm new to this site and found this interesting. I just started 5 female seeds of jack herer for outside this year and am using cfls 23 watts 65ook to veg and clone. Now I'm thinking of growing a couple out trying just the cfls inside so i dont have to wait till mid oct.

So you're growing outside with a 23 watt cfl? That's retarded, and a 23 watt cfl is even more retarded.

Use those trays and see how they work for you. I also wouldnt plant the seeds in the big pots yet, use little ones or cups for the first few weeks. They wont need the big pots yet and small ones will allow you to move them around for watering etc.
The exhaust fan you can just leave on at all times unless you prefer it to be off. I would say its not so important either way. Same goes for the fan inside, although I might just turn it off during night time.
