so as some of you read, i lost my gf about a week ago. today i was aproached by my family and forced to go to the doctors because they feel im not mentally stable. everyone thinks im going to kill myself wich is just stupid......its never even crossed my mind.

so now i have to take anti depressqnts and anti anxiety medicene. pills just gross me out. it just makes me think im going to become dependent on them.

anyone else take zoloft or xanex? not really sure what to expec

Yes,the Xanax is very addictive,dont drink with it.Its a tranquilizer.

they cant FORCE me. but then again i care about my family and if there going to be that concerned, i guess its worth a try

I know at age 18 I wasn't listening to my parent's and they couldn't force me to do anything.

Just don't take the damn things and smoke some weed, do some research on what strains are good for your symptoms. I'll never take pharmacuticals again in my life. Cannabis all the way

My main concern is that it has only been a week. You're going to experience some negative emotions. That's normal. Putting you on pills right away smacks of irresponsible treatment. Did the therapist/psychologist/psychiatrist suggest sessions to help you cope with this or did they just go right to the pills?

It helps because they're trained professionals who will help you gain the coping tools to get you through this. But, keep in mind, they're only as good as the information you give them. Be completely honest and don't hold stuff back. They can't help you if you won't do your part. Trust me, it helps. I went through a lot of therapy after losing my partner. It helped me get through the worst times of my life.

yes im over 18 haha closer to mid 20's. i respect my family so i will listen to them when they seem so concered.

today my dad told me that he was afraid of me. he thougt if he ever said the wrong thing that i would snap on him.

so yes ill take there advice. its not easy hearing my dad say that

if i went i wouldnt hold back. today was the first time i told my parents EVERYTHING about our relationship. idk if i mentioned but it was almost 4yrs long, not some dumb couple month fling.
i just cant control my anger.
i know it stems back to my dad when i was younger. he was always mad, always yelling. hes completly oposite now, but now im getting just as mad as used to be

Sorry to hear you hit a rough patch. I was alittle depressed some years back and went to the doctors. He prescribed me lorazepam to treat my anxiety that was causing the depression. I could never bring myself to take a single pill. I instead changed the things in my life that needed changed, I also smoked weed I think.

You need to enjoy being single for awhile then go out and chase some tang. Pharmies are almost never the answer. Hope you feel better.

Take the prescription drugs out of psychiatry and you're left with nothing but bullshit. fake science.
Take the xans , they really aren't that hard to drop IF you don't enjoy them.

Dig deep and find the source for your Anger,and Therapy will do you alot of good.
Being able to share whats bothering you with other ppl does help.

Your young get to the bottom of your problem now,or carry it the rest of your life!!

i don't know anything about your family but if people close to me suddenly started expressing concern for my mental state i would feel compelled to at least look into it. odd as it seems, talking it out with a HIPAA-bound professional does a lot of people plenty of good. it's possible to refuse medication and just go to the sessions. gaining insight and learning coping skills can be very helpful when a person is at a low point. much as i hate tired cliches, sometimes it really is hard to see the forest through the trees.

HOLY CRAP! Stay far away from Zoloft! I had a doc prescribe them for me when I was getting buried at work. I told him I was homicidal, not suicidal. Those things make you feel like a zombie, and they made me not able to ejaculate. I beat my poor wife up for about a week and got GI Joe kung fu grip, before tossing them in the trash. Xanax, now.....I like some xanax...

We love you and care that you see yourself out of this funk. It will happen. Heartbreak is a MF but you will grow from it.

I don't mean to dredge this up, but from what I've read, you believe that you have some issues to deal with as well. As you said, "it is worth a try", so sessions could help too even though they don't make sense now.

To be honest, all I can say is that it sounds like you have a good support group that knows you well and that you know well - one you interact with face to face every day. This is one case where, if it were me, I think going with their advice over random Internet strangers and "friends" is a good thing.

Of course, now that you've explained all this, some people will still read your first post and respond about the "forced" thing.

p.s. This doesn't just mean accept what other's say. It sounds like you can talk to your support group too.
