Working at a dispensary...

Hi guys.

I'm from the north east and am in search for some information. I thought, "who better to ask than the California people!".

Our states first dispensary is set to open in a couple weeks, I've got one of the first interviews. Being from the east coast I've never stepped foot into a dispensary and I'm unsure of what to expect. I know generally how they work, from reading their (and other) company prospectus' and like many I've seen the Weed Wars and American Weed tv shows.

I'm seeking information from experience folk about what I may expect on the interview... what questions may be asked, ect. Obviously everybody's interview process is different, and this company is new to this - but I'm sure there is some general advice you all can give. I have business and finance degrees from a recognized university and I've grown cannabis for a few years now as a registered patient. But like I said, I have no experience in this business, as this is the first allowed by our state to open. I'm both nervous and excited!

Also, I'm curious of some of the general positions a dispensary requires. Of course they need people on the floor, but I'm sure there is an equal amount of "back room" employees in this line of work also.

I'm gonna be the first smartass to say your best bet is to grow a big set of boobs. At least that's the cali way. And now for the serious responses.... you sound pretty well qualified to me, so it's probably going to mainly be about establishing a connection with the person interviewing you and getting them to like you you mentioned you're a patient if you know a lot of people in the medical community letting them know that might help as well.

I've maintained an ok relationship with the main representatives. I sent my resume 3-4 times actually over the past year and gradually communicated to see how things were progressing. (It's been 3 years and the state is FINALLY letting a few centers to open.) Folks in our local patient compassion group have worked with the operators to share ideas, they have also communicated my interest to the owners. I feel I've done my best to this point.

I'm still a bit nervous though. I think I'll dust off the old books in case I get quizzed.

Not from cali but I do work in a disp. in colorado,
with that being said. A dispensary job is alot like any other job. Employers want to know your gonna be hard working and trustworthy around their money and product. If you want ideas that are going to give you an edge make sure you VERY familiar with the current laws regarding MMJ in your state and be able to answer someones question that would be coming in or calling. Next be able to tell people the differences between sativa and indica strains. Which is best for what ailments and which strains on the shelves are which and so forth. The more you know about the product your going to be selling the better off you are at getting a chance to get a job...


sad thing is, Reef is right above almost everything else big boobs will get ou that job you see it everyday around here.

i would recommend calling a lawyer if u need MMJ laws answered a dispensary would b the last place i called

He might ask a lot of med questions and may not. I would think he would at least throw some in there to c where ur level is at if applying for a bud tender spot.
have a couple friends that own a collective and few that work at them.
one of the questions asked was basic like what's the benefits of sativa verse indica verse hybrid....should I use edibles for my needs or flowers or concentrates.
do u know about the benefits of CBd thc Cbn etc..
and as always u will be working with people so a happy upbeat attitude never hurts good luck man
and remember ask what ur not Shure about and always let them know u wnt to learn
