"Tray Scenery". Popularly known from Japan as Bonsai.
Pén jǐng has replaced the old colloquial term of pén zāi which literally means "tray plant" from which the term Bonsai is borrowed from.
Pén jǐng is just alittle different from Bonsai in that Pén jǐng is more relaxed in letting the hobbyist be more creative with containers and shapes whereas Bonsai is more strict with muted pot colors and tree shapes.
I've been dabbling with Pén jǐng since I saw all my brother in law's plants he had in China. I've got a Jade plant I'm training and bought a Chinese Elm and a Fukien Tea tree that were already trained.
I then decided to retire my one MJ mother and figured I'd do something with her. So what say you?
