are pictures 1-4 of the same room? I like the setup of that, I think i might go with something similar. Do you just veg in that one?

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. I will probably go with just cfl this time
Yes, there the same, just after transplant...and like I said in my last post, those big lights put out 20,000 lumens, in other words "it's fuckin' bright" and you're trying to imitate the suns brightness, but also like I said they're just my toppers...you can see the hanging CFLs around them (with more coming)

You will be fine with CFL's but you will definitely need to do a bit of wiring, buy grow cfl's, or a shitton of ones you can plug into regular bulb outlets. I move two reg small cfl's (look like desk lights with those clips) in with my hps now and just move them around to different areas of the plant I want to foxus on every couple of days. They don't get so hot either so that should help you out.

They're t5 ho lamps (and only my top lamps)...the big ones put out 20,000 lumens of 6500k and the little one put out almost 10,000 lumens of 3000k, and I have boxes of smaller 26w 6500ks & 23w 2700ks and accumulating hanging sockets to put them in..thanx for the input though, I am a n00b, but have gotten some really sound advice here..

CFL is still CFL. If you think they are great, when you do try HID you will kick yourself for not investing the money sooner.

I see this all the time, in many different aspects. Sure it will work, doesn't mean it is anywhere near what it could be.

In the future, when you switch to HID, come back here and compare results from your HID lights and your old CFL.

I don't know about finished product yet, but my plant growth exploded when I switched to hps. /\ The man has a point.

I think he was referring to the shop light i posted in the first post, not your lighting setup

Thats a great tip on the emergency blankets, thanks!

If im just going to buy one bulb, what would you suggest looking for? I know that different bulbs are optimal for veg/flowering but what would work best for both?

For the strain, obviously I would like to get some good bud from it, but I was looking more in the way of a durable strain that can endure some of the small mistakes that im sure will occur.
Your bulb choices are limited by wattage and base. Your low bay shop fixture probably uses an M59 but CHECK before ordering or buying. I use 2 of them I converted. Never bought a new bulb and the 2 I have grow the hell out of my seedlings and clone stocks. My advice? No new bulb for now.

Odor control?
It is in a pretty sealed basement, and with only 2 or 3 plants im hoping it wont be strong enough to need anything special.

I would have a hard time flowering with that bulb though, right?

Suggestion, to fill that gap between your stars and wall, use that foam gap filler, works great. Its what I did, no light in our out. Nail/screw (temporary) a 2x4 to bottom edge of stair case to stop any from just falling right thru to the floor.

Again, just a suggestion for you in case you over looked that stuff, Good luck.

Your shop fixture cannot run an HPS bulb. And you can do complete grows under MH. Better yields for sure with HPS.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about smell yet either... Right now my exhaust blows the smell into the attic, but I'm in my first week of flowering and anticipate it getting much worse. Those negatively charged ion filter fans seem like a good idea, but I'm not sure on whether or not they truly work or what size I would need.

The smell? Pop that seed and get her up. The cart before the horse is not a good working principle. Worry about odor when that time comes.

Oh he was talikin about my CFLs, or CFLs in general, and he's probably right. I'm just a n00b...but I do know my electric bill doesn't go over $150 w/my CFLs...my buddy down the road is going MH & HPS and his bill is over $300!!!!

To figure your electricity cost

Watts multiplied by hours per day multiplied by number of days divided by 1000 and multiplied by your cost per kilowatt hour

Yep, that's what I did before I even started buying anything....and it's $16.32 extra for my CFL's per month, compared to 600w HPS @ $27.54, or 1000w MH @ $38.78...so it was ez on my semi retired budget...lol...but rest assured as soon as I win the lottery, I will have a room full somewhere in Colorado...lmao
