Summer on its way, Heat Help!

Okay, So thinking back to last summer our house got up and over 90 degrees almost every day.
We dont have central air, all we used last summer was fans and honestly it was miserable.

Lucky for me, this summer I will have some girls to take care of.

They are in a 4 x 2 x 5 Tent that has intake and exhaust running from it currently which keeps the temp around 80-ish.
The only light used is a 4ft 6 Bulb T-5, & I dont plan on upgrading anytime soon. Im happy with what it is for now.

Anyways, during the day the tent is open and I have an osculating fan outside the tent giving the girls some added air letting the dance. At night when the lights are off (they are in flower), obviously the tent is closed up. The intake and exhaust are set on timers. Once the lights go off they, the fans run for an hour, off for 30min, run for an hour, off for 30. You get the deal. Till lights are back on then they are on all day.

So with that being said, I know this summer is going to suck drastically. I was looking into getting one of those portable AC units that dont need to go in the window (just the vent does), at around 10,000BTU, for our bedroom. I was wanting to get an evap cooler for the tent itself which is still an option but if I can get away with just the AC unit itself, that would be ideal.

Would the one 10,000 BTU cooler in the room, outside the tent, be enough to keep those temps down in the tent? Obviously the intake fan would be bringing the cooler air in the tent?

Can I get some input from people who have been there & done that when it comes to cooling?

Thanks Guys!

I have the same tent with a little bit more powerful AC but it keeps my 400watt Hps/cmh plenty cool as well as my 600 watt

so you will be good if you can get an ac for the room that the tents in and run the duct close to it.

Try to get one off craigslist for cheap because it shouldnt have to be that strong for your light set up.

good luck!

Is your tent exhausting back into your room? Think about hooking both exhausts together, so all heat goes out, then you may only need the one. good luck

I was looking on Craigs today because it would be an awesome time to get one. While its freezing outside and nobody has a demand for it yet.
Was thinking of buying one new though just for the sake of being able to return it. Just needed to make sure that route would work before pursuing anything.

Thanks for your feedback!

Exhausting the tent outside with the AC wouldn't be plausible. The smell would certainly run some suspicion.

The exhaust in the tent has a home built carbon filter which works... but to only an extent. Its keeping the smell "down" but not away. With the fans in the room, window cracked open, fan in the window blowing air IN, it keeps the smell down and filters itself out throughout the room. I cant smell it anywhere else in the house which is what I needed.

And as far as heat of that T-5, I was always told they dont get that hot. Which I can obviously keep my hand under the light nearly touching it and its not bad but I feel like the heat in the tent from it is crazy high. I had problems in the beginning with heat till I got everything dialed in and even now sometimes I run up to 90F if i leave that tent closed up all day. I dont mind leaving it open during the day as im home all day but whenever im gone or at night its sealed up.

It also probably has a lot to do with my intake and exhaust.... Cough.. Bathroom exhaust fans. Ive been reading all over the forums forever just never had a reason to post & I know the opinions on using these. It was cheap at the time, and its working for me currently. They are strong enough to get fresh air in, and its strong enough to get through a carbon filter and exhaust. Cooling is compromised but I sacrifice by not letting them sit closed all day.

Get a real carbon filter, get an inline fan, get an A/C. Run the inline fan 24/7

/problem

yeah have the aircon on twenty four seven as long as you don't mind the $5 day running cost. do outdoor in summer and indoor every other month, youl get herms or drastic reduced yield
