Ok, this is from experience.. it is ok to grow with cheaper/DIY equipment, but I can see the difference in the results!
This was grown under 150 watt hps and miracle grow MC 6 months and just tigerbloom for nutrients in mid to late flowering:
This was grown with roots organic, the foxfarm nutrient line (boosters and micro brew/root drench), 600 watt MH/HPS and a grow tent... the tent you see is a DIY that is now my drying tent. I can see the difference... (ok, so bag seed above as apposed to seed bank below plays a big part as well).

Well lets see here.....
1. Makes outrageously ridiculous claim in the initial thread.
2. Claims to have many of these "$100 grows", never explains why many $100 grows are better then just one big grow.
3. Never shows pictures of actual grow, just plants.
4. Never explains what $100 was spent on the actual grow.

I spent just in at under 100 dollars for my last grow room and was delighted with it..
That said I said I spent 100 clams.. a few of the old ladies lamps accidentally disappeared, as did the aquarium charcoal and ph dropper test (which is only 4 bucks anyway) and an old laptop cooler I 'retrofitted' in for my exhaust and filter.
But cash money, right under 100 bucks (including soils, lime, most the bulbs, power strip, y adapters, socket plugs, poster board and smoke detector).. things I grabbed from around the house.. maybe 50 clams. Box was made of cardboard lined with white posterboard, and posterboard reflectors.
You can get pretty far on the cheap if you get creative.

Original poster wanted to be a dickbag and start some shit, posting things that aren't even his own or providing any proof that he even has a 100 dollar grow room (after talking shit about it in other threads over the last week) - that said, it's not that the concept of a 100 dollar grow room can't work (for some people), it's just that I feel the same as quite a few others, he's trolling hard and is getting pounded for doing so.

I went super cheap on my flowering room alone and it ended up more or less as follows:
400wattHPS+adjust a wing reflector R1000
Mylar R350
Extractor fans R1400
Box fan R200
Other stuff not even counted (tapes+adhesives, mounting stuff, screws, wiring, timer, light/sound/smell proofing, experimenting etc).
More or less $300
My server (vegging box that can double as a flowering box if you don't mind the wait and weight) cost me about $100 to make.
So please, tell us your secret.

Gave me an idea when you asked that..What did you use the smoke detector for?
12v wired smoke detector would go great inside of a solid teak wood grow cabinet.. so if there's fire, it's noticed before the whole cabinet (which is a very solid hardwood) decides to start taking the whole house down with it.. especially since most teak cabinets have a varnish (also flammable)

I paint liquid fire retardant on all rooms and areas where I grow.
About R55 ($5.50) for 5L of the stuff.
