Leaf Tip Curling Up. 2 weeks in. PICS

Hey. This is my first grow.
Just overnight a leaf on my 18 day old plant started to curl and dry at the tip. It also developed a spot.
I read the plant could be "trying to retain moisture." And that it is most likely an environmental problem more likely than a nutrient problem. I'm growing in MG soil.
The CFL bulb is about 2 inches away from the top of the plant. I'm not sure if thats an issue. It hasn't been thus far.

The humidity is very low, 20% with 80-90 degree temperature. Could the dry heat be the issue:

ye youve got moisture stress its youre rh and temps, them combined with the age of the plant, its going to cause problems, mainly for the plant to transpire, this will cause nute problems to especially in hot mg, also what air flow you got, have they been in the cups from day 1

higher the clf slightly, as youve got a burn marl on youre leaf, might be a n burn to, but imo its heat move that foil away, its not helping really, you need youre rh up quickly, and the temps in range , is the area open or closed were the plant it

ok read youre journel, i didnts see it first time ,sorry,
the area youre growing in wouldn't be to hard to rise the rh and lower the temps,, but how long you planning on keeping the plant in there

have you seen the threads on here about ghetto growing, / pc growing, closet growing etc, some amazing info and set ups, that would be a good direction to go

Hey thanks. I'm planning on moving to a bigger space asap, because I just planted another seed.
I moved the CFL higher. Its about 2inches away now.
It was in an enclosed PC box, but I left it open just now to lower the temps.

I have a vaporizer. But I wasn't sure if I should employ that yet. Whats an ideal rh/temperature for an indica this young growing in MG soil?

I'm going to check out the pc grow threads. My friend built the box and handed it over to me.

Not sure about the humidity being an issue (I'm usually at around 20% also, and plants seem happy), but the temp definitely is. I've heard that all growth stops at around 80-85, with it ideally bring in the 75 range. Then again, it's early on a Saturday, so I may just be blowing smoke.

Good luck!

How can I regulate the temperature? Just the lights seem to keep the grow box around 100 degrees. With the fans on, it takes the box temp down to the high 80s-low 90s.
Is my only option to add another fan? The room temperature is between 60-70 degrees. It's in the basement so the temp fluctuates depending on a number of factors.

Best would probably be to open the box up when possible. That will encourage air movement in and around the plants as well as help lower the temperature. If that's not an option, another fan would probably help. I've seen things that talk about using one fan for air intake and another for output, so that might be another option.

I have a small intake and output fan. I don't think they are doing too much as far as regulating temperature, just circulating air.
I've left the case open for now. 86degrees last time I checked. 16%rh.

With the box open, perhaps try adding a regular room fan to the mix. That'll help circulate cooler, fresher ambient air into the box, and warmer air out.

Good luck!

Thanks. Have a question as far as the lights.

I have two 26W CFLs going right now. If I dropped one 26W for a 14W, do you think there would be a drop in temperature without having a detrimental effect on the light output? I think I'm somewhere around 2000-3000 lumens right now.

I would assume there would be some detrimental effect since there would then be less energy available for the plants to use to grow. Admittedly, though, that's a bit above my head as a new grower too. I'll defer to the pros on that question.

If you take that foil out from under her she will thank you..it causes hot spots = ur problem, and don't spray it while lights are on, the drops act as a maginfier and will leave those "burn spots"..good luck man

First 68-72 is optimal, but I've had mine go to 85 w/50% humidity, and they love it (for a few hours at a time) and if you have humidity issues hang a wet rag in there..and put an exhaust fan in it to draw heat away

Hey guys, there's a bunch of good info in some books that are free on the net, "Marijuana grow Basics" is a condensed "Grow Bible" get it read it and good luck...here's what happened after I read some of these books...pics are worth a thousand words...

Thanks. Gonna go with another fan. And I'm gonna add a wet sponge in there. I took the foil away from the plant as well.

My curling leaf got worse overnight, and another leaf is starting down the same road. Its only the bottom two leaves just above the cotyledons.
The box temperature is still rolling around 85 degrees and humidity is up to 20%.
Could this be a nutrient problem with the MG soil?
I was going to repot at 3 weeks. Should I repot now in different soil?

My plant hasn't shown any vertical growth in days. This coupled with the leaf issue is disturbing. Nothing environmental has changed for the plants so I can't pinpoint it. I'm going to the garden center a little later and grabbing some ph meters and organic potting soil.
