Best 5 Gallon buckets/pots to grow in?

What what inexpensive 5 gallon buckets/pots are you all growing in? I've seen one person say that they drill holes into the bottom of one 5 gal bucket (for drainage) and then place that bucket into another 5 gal bucket to catch the runoff. Is this the norm? What's the best most inexpensive way for me to pot 20 plants in 5 gal buckets?

Ya people do that my buddy does the same but he runs small amount of plants and uses a drain hose for each bucket . If ur going bucket route any bucket will work but shoot for a dark colored bucket u dnt want any light getting in. I recommend using a fabric style pot like smart pots etc . If u dnt want to do that u can get what they call 5 gallon thins Wich is just a thinner plastic pot than the thick heavy duty ones and they work just fine

I usually use 5 gallon thins but right now I am using 3 gallon gro bags not the fabric ones the trash bag type ones well the same style plastic

Is this ur first grow etc I usually start friends off with a 5 gallon pot ( once plant needs to be transplanted from 2 gallon) smart pot usually with ocean Forrest and happy frog one bag to one bag ratio for its 50/50 and perlite and use a basic vedge nute and flower nute

Couldn't I just plant the clone into the 5 nursery pot, and be done with it? I just spent a small fortune buying dbl of everything for 2 grow room + the se.eds, so really do not want to spend any more than $50 or less on all the pots I need. Thanks again for your input...

U can do wharltever u like I always go.from. clone to 3 inch square pot to a half gal to a 2 gal then a five gallon or whatever size pot it will be in its final home for flowering

looks beautiful what week is that in and yess the home depot buckets work good this new grow i started with smart pots to try something new have you used are they muh better do you know? i only did one 10gal smart just to see results

That's my blueberry clone at 4 weeks it still has another 4 to go. My first time growing in super soil just plain tap water from beginning to end. Smart pots work great too I use those as well.

Very nice Honestly I prefer the buckets just because they are easier to lift and move around without disturbing the roots, but if you don't move your plants much smart pots are fine.

$2.99 for the 5 gallon ones at lowes or home depot, I use them for making bubble hash too so they are multi purpose buckets

These. Smart pots. 5 and 7 gallon. Shop around online or hit local grow shop. Run anywhere from 2.50-5.00 each. Last years. Allows one to water/fed more often as air pots dry out quicker, bigger plants and if you are feeding properly bigger buds.

I move my smart pots all the time. I even have ones without handles. No issues with disturbing roots.

Yeah they work great too its all about preference really. Smart pots help the roots breathe and have great drainage, but soil dries out faster so you have to water more often. Drainage varies with buckets depending on how many holes you drill in the bottom but you can reuse them over and over. In my case I had to transport the plant in my car so buckets helped.

If you're looking for cheap five gallon buckets you might want to check out your local restaurants. In the town where I live the local sub shop sells their empty pickle buckets for $1 a piece.
