Sprouting seeds using napkins

Lol. Also OP what seeds are you using? They should do something. Just don't overwater them or let them dry out. Pick seeds that are plump and striped if you're using bagseed. If they don't come up just wait. After a month then maybe you can give up but they can take a couple of weeks
You bring up a really good point, perhaps we need a 'new grower' crash course sticky on what viable seeds would look like so they're not pulling 1/2 green/underdeveloped ones out of a bag and thinking that it has a 90%+ germination rate.

I got white widow, wonder woman, Bubba Kush, C99, Purps, Himalayan Gold, Tutenkahmen Fem and auto, Big Bud xxl, King kong, critical mass, hawaiian snow, big skunk got a good bit of landrace varieties. I have a good collection of seeds lol Those are just some.
I'm trying to start some of my landrace that takes time to grow out early to give them plenty of time to finish. All of these will be put outside. I will be trying to the silver solution on some of my feminized that I have to get some more seeds.
I have been mostly trying the stuff from Nirvana and some stuff I bought from a relative. I have a white widow and a C99 growing now. But my success rate has been horrid. :(

Not using any bag seed. But I have seen a couple of the seeds that I bought were whitish, I know from experience that those are not any good. I tried to get them to germ in water and they didn't do anything.

I typically get mine from nirvana as well, haven't had one not pop. Usually they come up in 3-5 days right in the soil, just water before cover with vented baggy and wait, if you aren't up north you can just leave it in the windowsill and save electricity or a cfl or two if its too cold in the sill.

Here are some pics of how it's done.

Notice the heat pad, the foil and saranwrap I use to seal the plates, any type of water works, don't soak seeds but better to be soaked then dried out. This method in pics produces 99.9% germination in under 36 hours, most pop in under 24.

I have never put my seeds in a glass of water, is it to soften the outer shell? All I have ever done is throw them in the soil or as I am doing now paper towel and then into a small piece of rockwool when they sprout, then into the clay balls. BTW I am only on my 5th hydro grow so still reading and learning. I just did 6 Critical Kush seeds yesterday, They took exactly 48 hrs to sprout and 3 days into pots. I have never had in the last 2 years a seed (all feminized) not pop. It typically takes 2-3 days to pop. I do put them in a covered opaque tupperware container on top of fridge. I have that part down, now I have to hone my growing skills lol. If going into a flood and drain should I be adding nutes to the res, its well water BTW. Sorry to highjack :).

I sprouted 2 in the last week like this:
Put a little distilled water in in a shot glass or the bag the seed came in.
I only let it soak a few hours until it sank.

Took a Sow N Grow peat pod and added distilled water, waited until it sucked up the water.

Laid the seed flat and covered with a quarter inch of soil.
Some say to put the pointy end down but I let the seed decide what it wants to do.

I put a layer of my usual soil in the bottom of a 4" pot and the sow n grow on top of that.
I mist the usual soil first.

Then take saran wrap and a rubber band to form a humidity dome and put it on top of a second 4" pot close to the cfl's in the grow room for heat.
Poke a few holes in the plastic wrap for a little air.

Both sprouted within 24 hours.
I take the plastic wrap off a few hours a day until the first leafs start to take off.

When the stem stretches to the moon I put my usual soil around the sow n grow pod and fill it to the top of the pot.

Happy Growing :leaf:
