Best time to top

Hey guys, im hoping I can get some good input on this. I going to be growing under 2 1k watt lights in 5 gallon pots and plan to veg for at least 6 weeks. When do you all recommend i start topping in order to get the best results from it? I'd like to create a nice even canopy with not a whole lot of undergrowth or popcorn nugs. I dont have much experience topping so hoping someone can help me out. Thanks!!

You should look into lollipopping your girls if you want no popcorn and an even canopy. Timming when to top is a critical thing when it comes to an even canopy. One day to late and the lower branching doesn't have time to catch up and a day to early can have your side branches taller than your mains.

Generally if I do not know the strain I start at about 7 days before entering flower, watch side branching closely and adjust your timeline according to their growth. If you do this you will find the exact day for your strain to top and end up with an even canopy.

Right now I have 2 strains, Shark takes only 7 or 8 days and the side branches catch up but my cheese takes a full 2 weeks for the same result.

Hope this helps.

I say you top right now. I wouldst topped a week ago.
Let the tops recover and grow then tie them below the level of the shoots of the node before.
That'll even them right out.

Also agreeing with the above. Research lollypopping. Maybe its what your looking for

i did these girls 2 weeks before the swtich
1 week to recover one week to grow and then you start the stretch.

still trained the same way and even out my canopy beautifully
and if you think about it
all the lower nodes when you top get time to catch up
then when you tie the tops down you get almost double the time for those little nodes below to even right up with the big girls

and if one girl mega stretches. just tie down the nodes below the tops on just that girl. no stress and you give the rest even more time to catch up

sir ganga, i lst to let branches "catch-up", i'm almost never on time topping.
Yup I hear ya...There are many ways and if a grower learns from their mistakes they all work. LSTing is just as effective for sure. It comes down to the comfort zone with the grower and the space they are playing with.
