Hello friends! After months upon months of researching and viewing journals i got the courage and finally took the step towards growing my own baby! Where im from ( the Emerald Isle!!) the quality of smoke here is average at times. You do get quality stuff sometimes but regardless of quality the price has been pretty steady for a while. And that my friends is totally unacceptable as calling it a rip off is an understatement. You would be looking at 20/25 euros a gram for mediocre stuff. Thus explaining my presence on this forum :) im sick of it and for once id like to smoke something that is pure and not sprayed, expensive or putting money into the hands of criminal gangs!

Now enough of the introduction. I have taken my inspiration for this grow from a number of members of this beautiful community! The likes of SCOTTYBALLS, Mr2Shim, Dayzt, Dr. Amber Trichome have all shared their wisdom and experiences for the vast number of growers :)

So after the meticulous research of which strain to grow i decided to go with the White Label feminised Northern Lights. After reading reviews on the strain and hearing about it in the past it seemed like the perfect one to get an indoor grow started on. This will be my second grow. the first one was an outdoor autoflower which sadly died due to being burned by neem oil in the sun :( lesson learned!

And now to introduce my baby. And from the get go i have a question which hopefully someone can clarify :D

I put it under a 125w cfl for the first two weeks and a few days ago i threw it under a 400w mh lamp. As of today it is at 19 days from seed. Is it just me or is it looking a bit small? By the way im using Lucas Formula for the nutrients :)

my setup:

Secret Jardin Dr90
125w Cfl (first two weeks)
400w Mh/ Hps for veg and flower
RVK 125 A1 fan and carbon filter
Clip on fan ( still waiting for this to arrive)
GHE Waterfarm

Changed the res today and ph fluctuates from 6-6.7 and ppm at the moment is 400ppm.

Do you guys think this is a bit small for 19 days? the roots haven't poked through the top chamber yet :(

Thanks for dropping by friends!

The little beauty is looking well and as Marley rightly pointed out she will take off under the 400w.
You have a nice bit of room to have a lovely bushy plant.

Again I agree RE: the weed, down this way a "50 bag" varies from about 1.8G to 2.2,the latter if you're very lucky, quality is also hit and miss.Thankfully I haven't seen that fibre glass crap in a while.

Good luck with your growbongsmilie

yeah man she (hopefully she) looks very healthy. Is it a fem seed or a reg? Marley is right about airflow. and yes the 400w will do nothing but good for the plant. My bad I read your first post and you said it was a fem and that you are using the lucas method, good on you. You should be good to go you can veg and flower under a 400w MH, some switch to HPS for flowering but you don't need to. If you are short on height than an MH is the way to go, it will keep it shorter and create rock hard buds!

Also RO (reverse osmosis) water will do wonders for the grow but you might want to get some cal mag+ seeing as how RO lacks a bit in magnesium and calcium but no biggy especially if you get the cal mag+.

any questions you have just ask and I will be happy to give my advice! Good luck on your run, NL is a great strain to start with, easy to grow for a beginner and is potent, won't leave you disappointed I promise you that.

cal mag:

cal mag.jpg you can get on amazon.com for a cheap price, man has lasted me a while, going on my fourth run with this size and still have over half of it.

Fr3d i havent seen any sprayed stuff around in a while. then again ive stopped buying from dealers in dublin altogether :)

Marley hopefully the fan should be arriving any day now! The hardest part is now waiting for her to grow. sitting waiting to see if aything is happening at all! But she should pick up soon

Mdjenks: thanks for the advice mate. regarding the mh bulb for flowering, theres no need for that. Hps should be grand as space is plentiful :D Ya took me a while to choose the NL strain. I do have a Critical Jack seed too but ended up with the NL. Regarding that Cal Mag stuff had a look and its very hard to find in ireland and the uk. But our tap water here is hard water anyway i think so should be fine throughout the grow :)

Whats the story jasper, good to see a few more Irish growers getting involved with diaries and such. The waterfarm will grow some monsters for sure, most of the first time waterfarm users I see let the plants get too big as they are not expecting the rate of growth to be as much as it is. Have you modified it with an airstone in the res yet? As soon as the roots hit the res in a superfarm it's like a bomb going off, a growth explosion if you will. I'll be keeping an eye on this journal to see how this one shapes up, all looking tip top so far though.

Ya ive seen plenty of people here using waterfarm's and getting great results so hopefully il be one of them :D No airstone yet. Will be getting another air pump soon and will add it in then. Hopefully the roots poke through soon. The wait is tedious!

I remember checking out your critical jack grow but there was no info at all. So i left my Critical Jack seed and went with the NL. How did that grow turn out for you?

I had to chop the plant 3-4 weeks early due to mould spreading fast. I had no way to vent my dirty air at the time so was running 80+% humidity all the time. As far as the smoke, even though it was nowhere near done the smoke as good, tasted like shit(unsurprisingly) as it had no flush either. I would grow it again in the future if I got a cutting as it seemed a high yielder, barring any mold it was a 8-9 oz plant under a 400w.

ahh mate thats pretty shit news!! after all the work it had to be chopped down. I havent got a fan in my grow tent yet but i leave the front open during the day for the air to circulate and humidity at its highest point so far was 50%. it hovers from 30-45% at the moment. But if i do grow again im gona try the Critical Jack just as its a tough strain to grow and to check out my grow skills

Hi guys thought id give ye an update. It is 26 days from seed today. Hopefully she gets bigger soon :)20130306_150147.jpg20130306_150150.jpg20130306_150155.jpg

Hi guys. Thought id give ye an update! she is sitting at 35 days today and ive just thrown in the scrog screen (DIY Shtyle!) few mins ago. She got quite a lot bigger from the last update. Ive stopped the drip ring and used the air pump to switch it to an airstone in the res. Would the drip ring be needed any more as there are some roots already in the resevoir

So i need some advice. Should i let her veg for a week or two to fill the screen until 60-70% or should i throw the hps bulb in there and switch her to flower?

Off the topic ive just seen the Hardy Bucks movie and thought it was brilliant. Any more Hardy fans around here? :)20130315_190442.jpg20130315_190448.jpg20130315_190501.jpg20130315_190438.jpg

Hello fellow rollituper's! Time for another update. She is 42 days from seed now and i reckon il be throwing under a hps maybe in week or sooner. When do you guys think i should?20130322_144316.jpg20130322_144324.jpg20130322_144334.jpg

You listed some top-notch water farmers... Which one recommended shutting off the drip ring during a grow? I must have missed that when I followed their threads... :wall:

None of the guys recommended it. I just had 1 air pump so i tried to switch it to the airstone in the res. I think once the roots are already in the res theres no need for the drip ring. However today i changed it back to the drip ring as the hydroton and perhaps the roots within were too dry

Keep the MH in there for another few weeks at least, you have at least another 2 weeks of veg to fill the screen up and it would do you well to use the MH for the first 2 weeks of flower to keep the stretch to a minimum. if you fill that screen up and end up with 8 inch colas (wouldn't recommend higher with a 400w as it doesn't penetrate the bottoms well) I think you can easily pull 16 zips from it. How has your Ph and ppms been holding?

You should put the pump back on the airstone in the res, that's where most of your root mass will be and you will get a lot more benefit than the dripper, this is where a waterfarm becomes a DWC and growth explodes. I generally just handwater until the roots are in the res, a few times a day will keep the pebbles moist.
