I am looking for advice on scenic areas in MI to check out

I just got to MI and I am looking for advice on scenic areas to check
out. Any nature trails, lake vistas or anything of scenic value. I may
wait in till they weather breaks, apparently my body has forgot my New
England roots and I have turned into a bitch about sub 40 degree weather.
I am in Ann Arbor right now but, down to drive any where within 4 hours.
Any help is appreciated from my new MI brethren.

yeah i second traverse. check out sleeping bear dunes real nice scenic drive there too. i live along lake saint clair. always enjoyed driving down lakeshore drive. lake on one side mansions on the other. specially during christmas. art van has every tree on his property lit up. yes that art van

^^ The pure Michigan commercial is what spawned the initial idea to move here.
I started reading this sub forum and looking at real estate prices and the rest is history.

Thanks Homeless, after looking at google images of Traverse City, I am leaving in the mourning!
Nothing satisfies my soul like seeing beautiful scenery for the first time.

After looking at these Mcnuggins http://www.flickriver.com/places/United+States/Michigan/Grand+Marais/
it is not looking that far away from Traverse City. My Pops lived Sault Ste. Marie for a while when
he was a kid and always spoke highly of the place.

I guess I am going to check out Holland tomorrow and then take 31 all the way up to Traverse City. Then go from there.
Holland is the first place my Grandpop's lived after he came over on the boat from Ned. , it looks cool enough from pictures.
Does anyone know of cool bars or nightlife there?

may want to wait a bit on holland. tulip festival coming up soon may 4th thru 11th taking the wife and kids for the weekend

If you are thinking scenic the whole state is pretty nice with the exception of everything between Detroit and Saginaw. But if you want to see something different cruise I-75 through Detroit, it will make you look at the rest of our country a lot differently!

stoney creek metro park has a lot of great trails but it's about 2.5 hours from you, it's north west of detroit about 20 miles.

I vividly recall seeing the f 'ed up part of Detroit back in the day. I thought Canada shot some missiles over or something.

The state is beautiful IMO, I'm loving it. Welcome to Mich.

I heard of a zoo in the lower pen that is surrounded by state Parks...hear they feed the big cats at night n let u watch..haven't been able to verify yet, after I get license back I see.
