Outdoor hydro ?

I have wanted to put tigether an outdor hydro system ever since I saw what could be done with hydro. Yesterday I was able to get 6 trays, 12 ft long 2 ft wide and 6 in deep, with a 1.5 pvc drain in one end. they're made of fiberglass and pretty rugged. They should be exellent for a few different aplications. I must admitt I have alot to learn about the subject, But I am learning fast with help from great people here at RIU. Also I'm not afraid of trying. I plan to bury a 50 gal plastic barell as a res to keep it cool. Or I could bury a couple hundred ft of pvc water pipe. My question is does anybody have suggestions for the set up in the trays. Like ebb& flow. or I like the mist system. I plan on a rotating set up with Iranian auto flower. It's not a true auto but if I veg indoors under flourecents at 24-0, When they go out to the trays they will flower. Harvest in 45 days. If anyone has any experiance or thoughts, Or foresees issues that may arise I'm all ears... or eyes. Thanks.

so you need a fountain pump and an air pump ,stone, tubing and 1/2 inch or 5/8 hose.you pump the solution to flood the trays and recirculate back but if it leaks it might burn the pump out.

I have seen this done before on here I believe. Not sure. But I remember seeing it. I would have so many insect problems, so fast lol.

i have seen a few people start outdoor hydro threads...
never saw one finish...
i don't think burying the res will help too much...probably need a water chiller,ro filter and an air conditioner...
why you want to do outdoor hydro?
imo it makes sense inside but not outside...it will cost more than it's worth...

I grow outdoors using a coco/perlite soiless mix which may be considered as a hydroponic medium. People always mistake the buds for indoor hydro :) Why not give coco a try first !

Farmer, The Insects were something I thought about. If I don't get any forewarning,I guess I will have to learn the hard way.-Brown water, I Understand what your saying. I'm Just a curiose guy. There are 3 of us that grow as much as we want and enjoy the process very much. We are all com fishermen and love to investigate nature. We also Make fish lures,& traps, Play with baits, All sorts of stuff, And Trontreez, Your right, coco is also very appealing. two of us three are trying that. Very happy to hear about the buds. Always interested in any experiance you may wish to share. Thanks to all.

Brown water, I will be happy to document. The fact of the matter is you will prob have a ring side seat to watch us crash & burn as I will be on this site begging for advice when things get sticky. I live at about 43.50n lat east coast.Summer temps run about 80-90 F. we have a few weeks that can hit 100-104. But have a strong influance from mother ocean that helps cool things down. I realise those temps will be the #1 prob and we are putting our efforts into that. SHIT!!! As I'm typing I remember a chiller I took out of a sailboat a few years back. It's sitting on a shelf in the shop waiting for me to wake up. It has a compressor and two chiller plates. It was used in a home made frige, built under the bunks. I'ts also great for my indoor. I'll have to rig it as portable..... Sorry, Thinking with my fingers. Ok I gotta ckeck this out. I'll be back.

I'm pretty sure you have already thought of this but why not do a DWC in a 10 or 20 gal tub? That would give it enough room to get HUUUUUGE, or even just a 5gal bucket.

Either way though I really want to watch :D

I did 6 dwc last summer. The results were very good but the process was very labor intensive. I only used 5 gal buckets and sometimes they were sucked dry in a day or two. the temps were kinda tough also. I'm hoping buy burying a large res I can avoid mixing lts of individual buckets and help keep the water cool too. I hope the large trays make swapping plants after harvest easier. I plan to have a number of plants in veg under 24hr cfl,Then as I harvest finished ones the veg ones can be popped in the empty spot. I hope to have the res barrel a pump in-pump out situation. I see plenty of pitfalls and odds probably favor failure but the fun is in trying.I will keep posting and looking for advice. Thanks.

Check out this tread. I kept aeroflo rez mostly in the shade. When the sun would hit it, i had this camo shade cloth I would put over that would definitely keep the temps lower

The DWC was very sucessful. It was a platinum cookies, and it grew amazing. The most dense buds Ive ever grow. ROCK fucking hard.

The only trouble it outdoor hydro is that you have a beacon with water just waiting to be infested by all sorts of nasty critters. I had a problem with root aphids setting up shop.

Wow This is great. I think I like the aeroflo type. I read a post on here not long ago titled "harvest a pound every three weeks." I loved the set up. Basicly spray nozzels fed the roots inside a pvc pipe then drained back to the res. I did DWC last summer and I too was very impressed with the density of the buds. I will study your link further later. Hope to hear more Thanks.
