How do I test for THC levels?

Hey guys. I know it is possible to get some kind of test that gives you a reading on cannabinoid levels in your buds, but how do you go about that? Some dispensaries post these figures on Weedmaps. I'd like to get some kind of reliable reading on plants that I might want to breed or clone. I can always smoke it myself and try to judge the potency, but I consider that kind of hit and miss because my tolerance levels could be way up there.

For an accurate, no BS answer.. buy your own gas chromatograph.. other than that - a reputable lab, as Meta recommended. If you need tips as to what's reputable, look at who you can find and consult with the RIU people. More than a few have had testing done on plants.

Thanks for the replies, people. How much can I expect to pay for testing just one sample? Ballpark figure?

Depends, in Michigan you can get samples done for 50-80 from a qualified lab if you knew the owner or some of the crew and you get a discount. Am completely unsure as to California though, will peek and see what I can find.

If you're near Oakland, seems that there's a very nice lab that offers all types of testing, and will also put products you have on a "SafeCannabis" list, should you be testing for a dispensary.. which they also give links to dispensaries/etc that are approved and meet the testing standards. Google for steep hill lab .. and check out their website. That's the only one that gives full coverage of all the things I would ever ask to have tested that I can find. Am sure there's a few from Cali on RIU that could offer other suggestions, should you just want to check potency, etc.

I'm going to try www.testlabamsterdam.nl (supposedly working on English site) this summer, comparing early and late harvest, will definitely post results at riu. If you happen to be in Amsterdam and smuggled some of your own home grown - yeah I can see how that might not work very well - that's the one to go to, and if you do ask for the price for a test excluding certificate (less expensive). Roughly, don't pin me down on it, it's $100 per test but one test can include multiple samples (4 if I remember correctly).

Need 0.1 gram for a 60min taking test (thc, thcv, cbd etc. etc) Also has a test for roughly the same price to test 10 young plants to determine sex, and another one for pesticides.

I have good hopes they will become more popular and their rates will lower cause I'd love to do it every harvest.

The method they use is thin layer chromatography.

Had some testing done for donating herb to a Cancer Patient , we wanted to be able to tally the numbers .. The guy who ran the lab only charged 40+ for most of us and that was a deal but it didn't last long as our area has not enough demand :(
