Ventilation Question...

I'm in a 10x10x11 room which would be 1100 cubic feet. In that room I only have 1 600 watt light and 4 plants. I understand that you should change the air in that space 3 to 5 times per minute but wouldn't the total volume vs. how many plants make a difference as well?

Doing the math I would 1100x3 = 3300 which would mean I'd need a 3300 CFM fan to achieve 3 changes per minute. But how many air changes do 4 plants need in an 1100 cubic feet space? I would understand if they were in a tight space like a small grow tent or closet but these girls are chilling in a 100 sqft room? I've searched everywhere to find some sort of ratio to answer my question but no luck.

So right now I completely change the air in the room twice a day (once in the morning and once at night). the room has two doors so I open both and put a box fan in to move the air completely out. I also have an air purifier and a Oscillating fan running when the doors are closed. My plants are in veg, roughly about 10" tall. Will this practice be enough air change for the plants? Right now it seems to be working fine.

Your thoughts?

Your math is right but off the top of my head I think the rule of thumb is to replace the air every 3-5 minutes, not 3-5 times/min

5 times/minute would be a freekin cyclone

When you come into room right before an air change is it overly hot or humid IYO and/or will it be in your summer?

Ha! Survival of the fittest in my garden!!!! Roughly a 300 CFM fan should cut it?

The room has it's own thermostat and is set at 65 degrees. After the light comes on it stays pretty steady about 76-78 at the top of the plants. When the lights are off it's around 65 degrees. That's with running a MH bulb and the 600 watt lamp is reduced via the ballast to 400 watt. Humidity stays pretty close to 40%. When I enter the room everything seems pretty comfortable.

When switching to flower will the HPS run hotter or cooler? I will also be upping the wattage to a the full 600 watt as well. During the hotter months I have a window unit mounted to the wall on the backside of that wall is a pole barn no heat or AC there. Keeping it cool or heated shouldn't be a problem and I can easily control humidity and with a humidifier or dehumidifier so no real concern there.

Just really concerned with my Co2 ppm. From what I've read that can really effect production and I would like to maximize production with the effort i'm putting in. After a couple grows I'd like to move to a propane Co2 generator and not have to worry about this stuff. I think long term that makes the most sense. Just trying to get a few grows under my belt before I invest in the Co2 unit and controllers.

to big of a room not enoughg light. id make a smaller room inside the room honestly. ull get a better yield with reflecting that light and keeping the plants in the what i like to Call GO ZONE.. lol the perfect distance from canopy at all levels and sides.
