I also had the idea of using a large air pump and stone in a small tank of water inside the large root chambers. Would this be a way of delivering oxygen to the roots, as most of the o2 will be exchanged in the air?

as you can probably tell, my girlfriend/partner is out of town for a couple months ha...LOTS OF FREE TIME! But there went 90 percent of my human interactions.
 
hey there this sounds pretty identical to what im in the process of planning out. I too want to utilize a 4x4 scrog for each plant. are you concered about your roots hitting the bottom of your system.

Ya, but that is nothing a root trellis won't fix. I plan on doing a few layers of large mesh screens for the roots to colonize and spread across. I am limited by my ceiling height, so I can't do the 4ft deep chambers I was hoping for, 3 should do it.

I am going to save myself a lot of time and hassle by going with impingement nozzles at first. Maybe after some good harvests I will upgrade to air-atomization, but I am not eager to spend a couple grand on something that I am still going to have to learn and dial in. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. I am getting the SS nozzles mentioned in TB's thread, and ordering double so I can have a backup set, soaking in h2o2 to swap out when clogging starts. Seems like the best option for my situation as stands. Phew.

Long time no post...

I had a buddy from back home visit so that side tracked me, although it did produce a lot of potash haha. Since then I bought a chemical delivery pump used for dosing well water with chlorine, a 14x40ft greenhouse, and SO MUCH schwag from CL: 8 reservoirs/lids, flood trays, nutes, 3x 8 bulb t5s, 4x 10" filters, ducting, an ez cloner and more for under 600 bucks. I love deals. Now I am setting up the greenhouse and freeing up my space in the house and transferring it all outside so I dont run into space/height restrictions.

To keep the res and chambers cooler, I am burying them in the earth to keep a more constant temp and increasing my height potential. I still haven't committed to a nozzle yet. I would love to go air-atomized but do not want to spend over a few hundred per nozzle. I am watching the progress of Oxanaca and others, and am hoping to find a good solution to my nozzle dilemma. If anyone has had consistent results with a nozzle I'd love to hear about it. I am looking for SS as I will be running organic nutes and teas through them, and need the inert cation exchange potential they possess.

is your chemical delivery system a dosatron or dosmatic? im thinking of running two of them in line inbetween a pump and pressure tank. wont have to do shit:mrgreen:

craiglist is the way to go, but you gotta show up strapped everytime.

if your running organic nutes why bother with stainless? the reason people choose stainless is because salt based fertillizers slowly corrode brass.

hey dude have ever thought about starting some clones in june. growing them vegetatively until july first. and then transfering them outdoors and covering them with a light tight material 12hours a day to force them to flower.
imagine the posibilitys. you could capitalize on the brightest months of the year. you wouldnt even need to cover/uncover them manually, you could use some sort of machine to do it for you. and come august if you grew to much you could buy some 5 gallon buckets along with some gamma seal lids. fill buckets with herbs, add some oxygen absorbers, drill a small hole on top of the bucket. rent a tank of nitrogen gas, use it to displace the air with nitrogen. cover the hole with a few big pieces of tarp tape and forget about it til you need it.

Yes sir its a dosmatic. Got it and a 35 gallon tank for 120

I was worried about cell membrane adhesion via cation exchange, however I just looked into it a little further and the copper in brass actually shows antimicrobial and germicidal properties after a long exposure 45 min-6 hours. This could be useful to prevent biofilm buildup so the brass tacks is that I may save a bunch of money through this possibility.

I am checking out these devalan nozzles; This is the complete assembly I am looking at:

I am checking to find a local distributor and get a quote. This has a flow rate of 0.2 GPM/0.8 GPM. It is a SWIRL-AIR impingement style 316SS Inline style nozzle. It has a cone angle of 100deg but I read they have caps that throw at 160deg which would be great. Is uses air and liquid pressure to atomize at 50-100u. It looks pretty nice and as long as it doesn't hurt, it may fit the bill.

I just bought three home-scale RO 3 stage systems, an 80gallon fiberglass tank, 100 gallon black storage tank, 5 gallon pressure tank, crazy amounts of 2 in flexible quick connect hosing, 2 shur-flo pumps, lots of check valves, fittings, etc, -pretty much cleaned the dude out (moving and had to get rid of his system and he hooked me up with anything he wouldn't need again!), all for 500 bucks. I am stoked, the craigslist gods has been kind to me lately. All that is left is a large (80 gal+ compressor) and I am set to build chambers. I will do my best to sound proof the compressor chamber.

I also have a 5.5kw diesel genset that I plan on converting to run on veg oil to supplement my power consumption and provide backup power for pumps and a few lights. This will DEFINITELY need to be soundproofed. I would like it to be damn near silent, actual silence since it will be outdoors and I don't want to disturb my neighbors or draw attention. I will eventually install battery banks and an inverter/converter to run 120 and 240v. The anticipation is bubbling over the pot. Time to add ingredients, salt and sauce.

I checked and it is actually a mec-o-matic. I really don't know much about it; I bought it on an intuitive leap. Do you know specs? Will it work for this application?
injectors are the most awesome thing you can add to your setup. ill post a diagram of why once i get a minute.

according to what you posted
you will need to set your air pressure at the nozzle to 30psi and control your water flow to 800ml per minute or13.33 ml per second, to accieve a sauter mean diameter of 50 microns.
thats an insane flow rate if you ask me. my nozzles are currently putting out 0.72ml per second a piece, when you compare my current settings against the specs.

its a pity they dont list specs for air pressures at 30psi on the pdf on their website. they start giving you numbers at 50psi air.

the air cap you have chosen seems awesome you can get a spray angle of 90-110 degrees depending on your air pressure. i wish i could do this with my nozzle, mines around 30-35 degrees

my bet is this isnt a good nozzle to use, as the flowrate is really high, i cant wait to see what atomizer says though

To get close to the right droplet range you`d have to use some epic air pressure and at that point the flowrate would be too low. To get droplets in the correct range you need a Dv0.5 of 30 microns, at 50 microns you`ll get a percentage of droplets as large as 150 microns.
