Stick your finger in. thats th best way to tell. i have a high peat and perlite oil, so it drains quick. plus the hps are warm so they dry out quicker. however cannabis is not a water lilly. you dont need to drown it. it its not drooping, its got water. weight of the pot and the finget test are much better indicators of dryness that topsoil. i water every 3-7 days on flower, and everytime my buddy sees them he trips, tells me they will die. haha whaterver, this is a guy who calls fan leaves "useless branches". that made me laugh. you dont need to water everyday. unless you grow in 1 gals under 1000 watters.
i watched a vid of a guy who used cfle, and only wattered these midget ass autos 2 times intheir whole life. you just need to check the medium. if you are really worried, water using the bottom up method tith trays. you just fills the trays, and the girls drink what they need. no worry about over or under watering. however, as arjan of the greenhouse pionts out, if you flush and dry your pots, you can finish one or two weeks quicker than usual. its no bs. they finished their skunk in 6 weeks, something i can believe, as im growing their superbud, a skunk andbig bud cross. its in its 4th week, smells dank, is covered in chrytals, and is already 75% done. ill be able to chop at 7 weeks no problem. my mandala satoris, using the same method will probably be done after 8 weeks. usually super bud is 8 weeks and staori anout 9-10. if you do it right, drying the plant works in your favour.

cant go wrong w the ol finger test..........

Plus different plants require wattering at different times. my greehouse can go 10 days without water and no signs of wilt. mandalas, drink water quicker, sometimes needing water every second day. satori is a midget ass sativa, and she thirsty. Most indicas consume alot less water. they are smaller, with numerically less leaves. less leaves, less transpiration.
that said, my buddys chemdag is usually short, as he backcrossed it to a really short kush, regardles, those fuckers suck water. if he dosent water every 2-3 days they start to wilt. and his room is much cooler than mine, he grows at 26, as my rom is short, my room is usually about 28-29.5 with lamps on. my plants are fine, as mandalas, and greenhouse are rowdy, they fucking GO CRAZY if you love em and take excelent care. yo much heat is a killer, hovever, below 30, all plants usually thrive. im not going to say im the best grower, but i understand a very basic concept that is essential to quality indoor growing. the best way is to try and replicate nature. i have fans in diferent places on random flippers. that way it replicates changing wind patterns. i use metal halide in veg, hps in flower. the moor closely you replicate nature, the better. it sounds crazy, but ive known growers to allow a pet to slightly chew leaves, in the hope the plant will output more energy, to heal itself. a novel idea, i didnt notice a difference. but plants arent people. they dont regenerate. but use your mind and be creative. hydro bud is kinda, without character in its flavour. no doubt it grows bigger. but its less natural, and as such, going against nature always has some kinda detrimental effect. im not dissing hydro, ive had some great tasting hydro that would drop a elephant. im a organic dirt farmer, the thought of hydro freaks me out. neon colored plant foods, seriously labour intensive to setup and maintain(compared to soil). its expensive and one little bacteria or fungus any you can lose anywhere from a couple 1000 worth of bud, or in serious cases, 100 000s of thousands. if hydro works for you, and you dont mind the work and like the product, keep wit it. that shitz just aint fer me

i really completely ignored your posts as ive already replied to the message you had time to send me after all your posts aswell. but i really think its funny that you think its regular for the topsoil to dry out two inches in 24 hours... this is not a usual thing. now i have a degree from the cannabis college in detroit, and have grown for many years trust i know whats up. ive check my plants weight and such but they are not wilting from watering at all and are using all the water and will start wilting for watering after just 48 hours after watering. this is week 5-6 of flowering. but i usually water every 3-4 days in veg and 2-3 in flowering. i was using regular 5 gallon containers for awhile before these larger 7-10 gallons recently. not sure if these air prunning pots use water faster aswell possibly.

Whenever I stick my finger in and she is dry I keep rubbing her fan leaves until she's wet then I stick more than my finger in...:bigjoint:

Sorry with all this sticking a finger in her talk, I couldn't help myself... hopefully that breaks up the tension on this thread too

You are missing the whole moral of the story. its up to you if you want to ignore advice. but if you go dry after 48 hours, you arent using enough water.

and by the way, i live in a dryer climate than you. And i dont have this issue. and if you are sooo great of a grower, you would know how to water. whatever you spent on "colledge" was a waste. should have gone to a real certified university and taken botany. then you might know how to ratio your water to how much soil. 7-10 gals arrent for beginers.

cannabis college. that sounds hillarious. like im going to believe cause you wave a piece of paper around, that you are a expert.

domt ask stupid questions amd we wont laugh at you.

really tho, i use quick draining soil, mh and hps lights, and live in a place with 25% rh. and i dont think of covering my soil. cause i know how to properly check soil.

i dont need a uncertified colleges diploma to tell you, you dont know shiiiit. dope can grow in the desert in sand if watered. so i dont see what is your issue. i have a buddy who grows a few plants in his back yard in isreal. and he dosent need to cover his plants. yes, gasp, in the desert.

I could wipe my ass with fake diplomas all day. you can wave it around like it means something, but it dosent. you are the first grower ive ever met who thought they are a master cause they got some silly ass piece of paper. ive never known anyone to make some wild claim like they know more shit than anyone, than ask such a fucked up question.

anser is yes, it is normal to have dry topsoil. holy fuck, you really will win the black mold cup. mold, mildew, bugs, and bacteria. smells like sucsess in your grow room... sounds like you like it a little to wet dogg
