rockwool clone 100% straw hole drilled 1-2" from bottom, this will go 12/12 once roots are established to be in bottom res. nute start immediately half strength then full strength as soon as established because of the containers limited size and the lack of a res at the bottom it must be flowered fairily quickly or it will need water 2x a day

(just wasting time while oil purges:D)

Great thread. I love your inventiveness.

I have only used straw in a variety of mushroom subs.
It is highly contam resistant when it is pasteurized properly.

Take care,

JD

Checked you out like I said I would last night!

Thoughts:

I'm a bit partial to everything given the end result ya know?!
BUT I do see that our girls don't mind a little straw haha!
Will def. look a little further into it bro!
First the mushroom compost! Next I'll with some straw!

I change one variable at a time in case the results aren't warranted! Then I know what I did wrong!
But in all, I'm doesn't sure that the straw alone is capable of supporting a large enough microbe population for the plants to thrive.
How do you feel about that bro? I notice you said you where doing a mostly soil center with a straw outside and you had to kill it off?

the soil center guy.... i dont know exactly what happened to her, i think it was matter of timing(stuntuned during transplant) and the fact i used the shittiest clones available.

i think the microbes survive the strawmpy had a bit of an aerobic smell and had to be drained recently, microbes, they will thrive any where, but i do agree to an extent, and i wonder about the diversity.

but i feel yah man, one step at a time!

i could not find any evidence of herbicide "in" straw, there have been cases of contaminated straw and manure ect. but the only reference i could find was about pasteurizing straw with cal. lime, which would leave a spot in the yard, but not cause of the straw.

Well, I will try to find better data for you.

This thread from the Shroomery, started by the most excellent Terry M,
discusses straw pasteurization, and the almighty Roger Rabbit (;0) responds,
referring to the herbicidal affect of straw water.

Now, again, this is for a huge mass of straw, heated in water (ad you well know),
and so this may just be a side note (the root say "happy", right?).

Also, I believe that the water can be dumped on the lawn after only one run.
It is after more that one run with the same water that this effect was seen.

Full disclosure: I have not seen this myself.

Take care,

JD

Just watch out for Nitrogen lock out.

The carbon (straw) you are adding is like wood, it needs fire (nitrogen) to burn, breakdown and turn to ash (humus).
actually, straw is balanced at a perfect 30:1 carbon to nitrogen ratio. It will break down into perfect humus on its own.

"The FDA announced today that saliva causes cancer.
But, only if taken in small amounts, over a long period of time."

- George Carlin

I am have to agree that the establishment likes to change it's mind,
and it never seems to remember this in it's certainty, the next time
that it is O-So-Certain.

I would look it up in Stamet's GGMM.
