I have read various articles about using eggshells as a sort of bonus for your soil. Anyone had any experience with this?

Just use gypsum

Egg shells and other goodies are great for organic soil that is 'cooked' over a period of time.
Not sure I would add it to your store bought soils though.

boil it then grind it into a powder no issues with cross contamination then clean out the membrane also
