If starting from seed then it is best to use a small pot.
Transplant once or twice during veg finishing with your chosen large pot.
The trouble with starting seeds in a large pot is that the roots tend to grow out into the large container before the plant actually puts out any more foliage. It looks as if its stunted but in actual fact its just concentrating on root growth.
IMO its best to allow plants roots to fill a smaller container before transplanting as this creates a very good healthy root structure.
If transplanting from clone.
I clone in rockwool, once rooted I transplant into small pots approx 0.5L. I allow them to fill this pot with roots and then transplant into my final pot.
Its also alot easier to overwater a small plant in a large pot.
